Our Medical Assistant/LPN/ED Tech supports our Quick Care location & Emergency Department by performing a broad range of clinical responsibilities, including preparing patients for evaluation, assisting providers during examinations and procedures, obtaining and documenting vital signs, performing approved clinical tasks and delegated medical acts, maintaining treatment areas, and supporting safe delivery of medications, immunizations, and laboratory services. The role also handles administrative duties such as updating medical records, managing patient registration, and answering phones. Throughout all functions, the Medical Assistant/LPN/ED Tech works collaboratively with providers and staff, using sound judgment within hospital guidelines while maintaining strict patient confidentiality.

Essential Functions:

  1. Performs clinical duties consistent with practice setting including, but not limited to the following: coordinates scheduling of individual patient appointments in order to maintain efficiency; prepares patient for clinic appointment; assists in admission, transfer, discharge process of patient; takes and records vital signs, weight, height; assists with assessment/examination of patient, as needed; informs patient of instructions and follow-up.
  2. Prepares patient medical records for visit encounter and updates medical record with medications, allergies, problem list, histories and past surgeries as needed.
  3. Prepares treatment areas for patient care.
  4. Interprets and implements provider orders.
  5. Performs delegated medical acts, maintaining adequate documentation.
  6. Demonstrates current knowledge about medications/immunizations and follows safe practices of administration. Administers medication and immunizations as prescribed by provider with demonstrated competency.
  7. Performs, laboratory procedures, and other procedures within the scope of practice for a CMA with accuracy and utilization of safe techniques and as ordered. 
  8. Performs clerical skills as necessary, including answering phones, scheduling appointments and procedures, maintenance of medical records, patient registration, filing, chart preparation, mail handling.
  9. Prepares and/or completes paperwork and prior authorizations related to referrals, insurance, surgery, etc. as necessary.
  10. May assist provider with procedures in the clinic setting.
  11. Ensures appropriate inventory and equipment to meet provider and patient needs (both in exam rooms and clinic).
  12. Performs cleaning duties in conjunction with the other staff which includes but may not be limited to: vacuuming, dusting, cleaning bathrooms, emptying waste cans, emptying sharps containers and arranging sharps pickup, sweeping/mopping floors, end-of day cleaning of exam rooms.
  13. Ensures transfer of lab specimens, deposit, and mail to and from the hospital as needed.
  14. Verbalizes and demonstrates expectations related to performance improvement.
  15. Actively and willingly takes on additional projects within the department or hospital.
  16. Continues to update skills by utilizing continuing education opportunities. Completes required hospital house wide education.
  17. Maintains BLS certification.
  18. Other duties as may be necessary to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

Requirements

All Requirements:

  • Current BLS certification
  • 1-2 years medical experience in an Urgent Care or Emergency Department setting preferred

MA Requirements:

  • Current Certification (CMA) or Registration (RMA)

LPN Requirements:

  • Current and valid Wisconsin LPN license to practice

ED Tech Requirements:

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and/or Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT).
