The AMI Project Manager plans, develops, budgets, and directs complex, multi‑year capital projects within MidAmerican Energy Company, with primary responsibility for delivery of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) program. This role is responsible for executing projects that are safe, compliant, cost‑effective, and delivered on an accelerated timeline.
The position will assume responsibility for critical AMI execution activities, including vendor bid evaluation, business case development, and transition into implementation. Projects may span multiple locations and organizations, involve tens of millions of dollars in capital investment, and require close coordination across Electric Delivery, IT, OT, Metering, Supply Chain, and external vendors.
This role is execution‑focused and requires strong ownership, schedule discipline, and cross‑functional leadership to maintain momentum through compressed and highly visible project milestones.
Responsibilities
- Leads planning, execution, and delivery of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) project, with near‑term focus on vendor coordination, bid evaluation, and business case development, followed by transition into implementation (30%).
- Develops and maintains integrated project plans, schedules, budgets, and risk registers for complex capital projects; drives disciplined execution to meet committed milestones and delivery dates (20%).
- Coordinates and aligns cross‑functional stakeholders including Electric Delivery, Gas Delivery, IT Applications, OT, Metering, Cybersecurity, Supply Chain, and external vendors to resolve issues and maintain project momentum (15%).
- Conducts regular project governance, progress meetings, and executive‑level status reporting; clearly communicates risks, dependencies, and mitigation plans (10%).
- Manages vendor relationships and administers contracts associated with major infrastructure projects, ensuring scope, cost, and schedule adherence (15%).
- Ensures all project activities are executed in compliance with safety, regulatory, cybersecurity, and internal governance requirements (5%).
- Performs additional responsibilities as requested or assigned to support delivery of strategic initiatives (5%).
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent work experience (typically six years of progressively responsible experience for candidates without a bachelor’s degree).
- Minimum of six years of experience in project management and/or engineering.
- Demonstrated experience executing complex, cross‑functional capital programs with external vendors and multiple internal stakeholders.
- Experience leading projects through vendor selection, commercial evaluation, business case development, and transition into execution is strongly preferred.
- At least two years of experience in a senior technical or leadership role preferred.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including executive‑level presentations.
- Strong ownership mindset with the ability to drive decisions, manage risks, and maintain schedule discipline under tight timelines.
