Salary:                       $52,755- $106,259 (Based on 190 day contract- 1.0 FTE)



  • Salary Amount Listed is for the 2025-2026 School Year. The 2026-2027 School Year salary is TBD.

  • Tigard Tualatin School District pays the 6% employee PERS contribution, upon eligibility.


JOB TITLE:    High School Literacy Teacher


JOB GROUP:  Licensed


REPORTS TO: Building Principal

GENERAL DUTIES SUMMARY:


Secondary teachers provide instruction to an assigned classroom working with the curriculum designed by the school district.  They work directly with students, school staff, building and district administrators to meet the educational goals of the district.


 


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:


 Instructional Support



  • Implement lesson plans provided by the regular teacher or school administration.

  • When needed, prepare and deliver instructional activities aligned to state standards and district curriculum.

  • Provide clear directions and maintain instructional flow for students.


Classroom Management



  • Establish and maintain a safe, respectful, and orderly classroom environment.

  • Uphold school and district expectations for student behavior and engagement.

  • Supervise students during assigned instructional and non-instructional times.


Assessment & Recordkeeping



  • Administer quizzes, tests, or assignments as directed by the teacher or

  • Collect and return student work for grading or review by the regular teacher.

  • Record attendance and maintain basic classroom documentation.


Collaboration & Communication



  • Communicate with school staff regarding student needs, progress, and concerns.

  • Follow guidance from administrators, department heads, and colleagues to ensure consistency of instruction.

  • Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and alignment with district policies.


QUALIFICATIONS:


Must possess the mental and physical skills and abilities of/to:



  • Make some independent judgments within prescribed policies and procedures

  • Employ good judgment in a variety of situations, including emergencies

  • Work with a variety of students and demonstrate a willingness to gain the information and training necessary to work effectively

  • Possess the characteristics and understanding to be an effective member of an educational support team

  • Comprehend and follow oral and written instructions and complete work within established time lines.

  • Communicate with appropriate student age group requiring the exercise of both empathetic and disciplinarian approaches

  • Maintain a confidential, non-preferential manner a non-judgmental attitude towards the students, staff, and program

  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor, staff, and general public


 


 Required:



  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.

  • Valid state teaching license or substitute teaching license, as applicable.

  • Reading Intervention Endorsement

  • Ability to follow lesson plans and adjust to a variety of subject areas and grade levels.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between Tigard-Tualatin School District 23J and Tigard-Tualatin Education Association.
