What you’ll be doing:
- Performs daily observation of contractor activities and completes Inspectors Daily Reports.
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local agency construction administration policies.
- Fosters a safety culture on the project site.
- Inspects, monitors, and oversees construction field work tasks and activities on a project to ensure conformance to plans and specifications. Reads, interprets, and confirms compliance with applicable contract documents.
- Performs or oversees on-site material testing. Reviews plans and specifications to determine material requirements (quantities and qualities). Responsible for the tracking of item quantities and preparing pay estimates and ensures that procedures and materials comply with plans and specifications.
- Initiates field changes to drawings and specifications and identifies discrepancies or conflicts within the documents.
- Reviews contractors daily construction reports for accuracy, thoroughness, and consistency.
- Consults on work progress and construction problems, proactively recommends solutions, assists in the resolution of issues, and acts as a liaison with the engineer of record.
Requirements
What you’ll need to be successful (minimum requirements):
- High School degree and relevant and progressive work experience required.
- Ability to perform mathematics sufficient for volumetric calculation and basic surveying is required.
- Understanding of construction methods, including standards, equipment, methods, and safety considerations required.
- Strong written and oral communication skills including the ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating so that you get along with clients, contractors, co-workers, and management.
- Good written and verbal communication skills required, including the ability to maintain a positive work relationships with clients, contractors, co-workers, and management.
- A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds, such as boxes of records, is required.
- Ability to sit at a workstation and perform data entry is required.
- Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs and ladders, and navigate uneven terrain throughout construction worksites for up to 10 hours a day is required.
What we’d love if you had (preferred requirements):
- A.A. or certificate in Civil Engineering Technology or Construction Management desired.
- APWA CPII and CPESC certification preferred.
- Knowledge of WSDOT Standard Specifications, knowledge and experience working with Materials Section of the WSDOT Construction Manual preferred.
- Experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Excel, Word and SharePoint and mobile devices such as iPad
