Overview
This position is clerical in nature involving typing and taking calls of some variety and complexity. The incumbent must possess excellent organizational, multi-tasking, communication, customer service, decision-making and problem solving skills.
Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist the general public walking in or by telephone answering questions and/or filling out paperwork.
- Provide relief and assistance on a daily basis for the front counter clerks.
- Provide operational and administrative support to the Watches (teams) of the Richmond RCMP either in the field, by telephone, PRIME, V-Mail and radio communications or in person at the detachment.
- Perform record keeping duties for the watch.
- Process paperwork, perform queries, compile and assist in the preparation of documents for the General Duty watches.
- Provide information and assistance to other police departments or internal clients concerning policies, practices and procedures in accordance with privacy issues/legislation which includes the City of Richmond policies, practices and procedures.
- Assist Watch Commanders with overtime callouts.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by watch clerk supervisor, the Watch Commanders, or their delegates.
- Perform inventory maintenance and control for the watch and the detachment as needed.
- Participate and take record information related to Compstat or other meetings as required and transcribe in the required format.
- Transcribe and prepare statements, meeting notes and reports to Crown Counsel as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Ability to customize police communication to external organizations so it is understandable and user friendly.
- Ability to enter Traffic & Criminal Court entries on TEAM and update applicable schedules.
- Ability to identify and relay serious and/or sensitive matters accurately.
- Ability to interpret the law to external clients in person, written and over the phone.
- Ability to maintain effective working relationships and to deal effectively with a variety of internal and external contacts in matters applicable to the work.
- Ability to operate PRIME and CPIC computer equipment, IQT & JUSTIN, Livescan, CABS, TSMIT CD & DVD burning equipment and scanning equipment.
- Ability to remain professional and composed while interacting with persons who may be expletory or abusive.
- Knowledge of RCMP policies and procedures, Criminal Code, Provincial Legislation, Municipal Bylaws, Motor Vehicle Act, Civil/Contract Law and Police databases.
- Demonstrated ability to use REDMS or a similar records management system.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an RCMP enhanced security clearance.
Qualifications and Experience
- Completion of Secondary School or Grade 12 equivalent supplemented by 1 year of education and/or courses in computer terminal operation such as; PRIME, CPIC, CABS and/or TEAM.
- Up to 1 year job related experience in a policing environment.
- An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
- A valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence in the Province of British Columbia.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an environment with occasional exposure to minor hazards. Light physical effort and mental concentration are required.
