Job Description

Benefit Specialist (Client Services) 


Summary: 

The Benefits Specialist supports clients at the One Stop Day Shelter by assisting them with applying for and maintaining public benefits, including SNAP, Medicaid, and SSI/SSDI. This role focuses on reducing barriers to access by providing hands-on application support, documentation guidance, and coordination with partner agencies. The Benefits Specialist plays a critical role in helping clients achieve stability by connecting them to essential resources 

Position Type: 

Full Time, Non-Exempt 


Essential Functions

  • Assist client at the One Stop Day Shelter with completing applications for SNAP, Medicaid, SSI/SSDI, and other public benefits.
  • Provide one-on-one support to gather required documentation (ID’s, income verification, medical records etc.) 
  • Help clients understand eligibility requirements and application process 
  • Submit application and tract progress to ensure timely processing 
  • Following all guidelines & procedures related to EZ Labor (clocking in& out, reviewing timecards, requesting edit sheets, etc.) 
  • Maintain training requirements
  • Projects and duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities 

 

Required Education and Experience

bachelor’s degree in the Human Service Field, and one-year experience working with homeless population and/or individuals with disabilities is required. Must have valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee can sometimes be exposed to weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
