Tilburg Law School (TLS) is looking for an enthusiastic colleague whose research and teaching has a strong affinity with international and European tax law. Do you like working in a team and want to make an impact with your research? This is your chance! The department of Tax Law is part of the Fiscal Institute Tilburg (FIT) which is a large and interdisciplinary institute. It produces world-leading research and delivers innovative teaching in the domain of taxation. This role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to this institute within a collaborative team environment. You will have the chance to engage in existing projects and initiate new research within the research program of the institute.

 

Your position

The Assistant Professor will have an active role in the areas of education, research and management of the department.

 

Education, which prepares students for legal professional practice and legal research, is an important part of the responsibilities. The Assistant Professor will be teaching in the International Business Taxation master. This will also include the supervision of master theses within this program. The master is an English-language program. Ideally, the candidate is also fluent in Dutch so that there is the possibility to work in the Dutch-language bachelor and master programs of the FIT.

 

The research of the Assistant Professor is conducted within the research plan Connecting Responsible Organizations. Researchers from the FIT work closely in this context with colleagues from Private Law, Corporate Law & Labor Law. Together we work on improving traditional regulatory frameworks in light of new developments that have an impact in the area of taxation and collaborations between various organizations and stakeholders. In this context, the Assistant Professor is expected to develop its own line of research in alignment with the research plan and to participate in the international debate. The (innovative) research is also carried out in interaction with other researchers within the research program. The Assistant Professor is also expected to make efforts to acquire second- and third-stream income.

 

As an Assistant Professor you are also expected to contribute to management of the department. We value a relevant and inspiring role in the development of the national and international positioning of FIT. You will work closely with other colleagues to guide education and research. Naturally, the Assistant Professor participates in faculty, university, and external collaborations that are necessary for fulfilling the role effectively.

  • This is a vacancy for a position in accordance with Article 2.3 paragraph 1 CLA DU. You will be given a temporary contract for the duration of 12 for internal and max. 18 months for external candidates. If, in the opinion of the employer, you perform well and the financial situation of the department allows it, there is continuation in the same position and equal organizational conditions, you will be given a permanent contract.
  • Vacation pay of 8% and a year-end bonus of 8.3%.

About Tilburg Law School
Tilburg Law School was founded in 1963 and has since grown into a leading faculty for law and public administration. Our education and research are distinctly innovative and interdisciplinary. We are driven by our mission to actively engage with pressing societal challenges such as new technologies, sustainability, and the position of vulnerable groups in the rule of law, from the perspective of legal and administrative sciences. We operate in response to local, regional, national, and international developments, and collaborate closely with other disciplines such as economics, behavioral and social sciences, philosophy, history, and digital sciences. The faculty is organized into five departments: Public Law & Governance, Private, Business and Labour Law, Criminal Law, the Tilburg Institute for Law, Technology & Society, and Tax Law.

 

Our education
Tilburg Law School offers bachelor's programs in Dutch Law, Tax Law, Business Law, and the English-taught Global Law program. Of the nine legal master's programs, five are offered in hybrid formats and six are taught in English. The faculty also offers both a bachelor's and a master's program in Public Administration. Our education places particular emphasis on vulnerability and on those who are vulnerable in society. Through this, we aim to contribute to a just and sustainable society. Our research
The five departments of Tilburg Law School collaborate closely in four distinctive research programs focusing on globalization and law, regulation of technology, vulnerability in criminal law, and sustainable private law relations. These research programs include both legal and public administration scholarship, as well as interdisciplinary approaches.
We strongly emphasize team science, encouraging researchers to work together, share knowledge, and strengthen one another in content and methodology.

 

The research program of the FIT is called ‘Connecting Responsible Organizations. We work closely together with colleagues from Private Law, Corporate Law & Labor Law. This program examines how (new) models and strategies governing relationships between private actors, organizations, and their stakeholders are—or could be—regulated and shaped by legal frameworks. In particular we focus on improving traditional regulatory frameworks in light of new developments that have an impact in the area of taxation and collaborations between various organizations and stakeholders, such as the Tax Administration, ministries, OECD, UN, businesses, individuals, judiciary, NGOs, academia, etc. In doing so, we embrace a broad view on sustainability, inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
