Job Description

POSITION: The Shiawassee RESD is seeking an instructor in Career and Technical Education (CTE) Electrical (CIP 46.0301 Electrical and Power Transmission Installation) to teach high school junior and senior students interested in pursuing a career pathway as a residential or commercial electrician. In addition, the instructor will teach students other professional skills, such as, but not limited to: leadership, teamwork, ethical and legal responsibilities, and safety. This program runs Monday through Friday. This position is fulltime from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

However, qualified part-time candidates will be considered.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Journeyman Electrician (or equivalent) who qualifies for an Annual Career Authorization (ACA).

• An ACA requires documentation of 4,000 hours of recent and relevant work experience over the past 10 years.

• Demonstrated experience and expertise as a Journeyman Electrician.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITES:
Ensure Student Safety
• Supervise all students enrolled in the CTE program during the time period which the students are in attendance.
• Ensure safety is the first priority.
• Engage students that have passed safety assessments and demonstrated proficiency in the use of all tools and
equipment prior to their use.
• Maintain a safe and well-organized classroom environment, paying particular attention to tools and equipment.
Deliver High Quality Program Instruction to Students
• Develop and implement a strong vision for student success.
• Prepare students to demonstrate proficiency in state approved competencies related to the Classification of
Instructional Program (CIP) 46.0301 Electrical and Power Transmission Installation.
• Assess and measure student growth.
• Collaboratively revise existing unit plans for a two-year program of study that aligns with the CTE State
Standards for CIP 46.0301 Electrical and Power Transmission Installation.
• Work with district mentor to develop a course syllabus that details program academic and behavioral
expectations, units of study, credentials that can be earned, and the Shiawassee RESD CTE grading scale.
• Develop and share weekly lesson plans with the CTE Dean of Students/Instructional Coach.
• Update/review curriculum as needed to meet Best Practices, along with State and Federal requirements.
• Base grading system on a variety of student work sources, including: projects, assignments, applications and
assessments, with traditional assessments not exceeding more than 50% of the marking period grade.
• Provide students with the opportunity to earn certification(s) approved by the State of Michigan to meet the
Perkins V quality program indicators as well as other supplemental certifications.
• Balance daily instructional time with hands-on classroom laboratory opportunities for students to practice and
apply learning.
• Provide multiple, progressively more in-depth work-based learning (WBL) experiences/job simulated experience
training for all students.
• Provide a variety of opportunities for students to develop a range of leadership skills.
Meet Program Reporting Requirements
• Report daily student absences on PowerSchool.
• Input current grades at least weekly on PowerSchool and submit grades quarterly according to the Shiawassee
RESD grading calendar.
• Perform all required CTE activities, prepare documentation of the same, and submit evidence for the CIP Self-
Review to the CTE Director and/or designee.

Cultivate Internal and External Professional Relationships
• Develop relationships with local employers and industry professionals to identify mentors and apprenticeship
experiences for students.
• Sustain the existing Advisory Committee of local employers in the field and community partners; facilitate
meetings at least twice annually to build upon and foster relationships with program partners and ensure
continuous program improvement.
• Collaborate with the Shiawassee RESD and local post-secondary partner(s) to develop post-secondary
agreements so that students earn college credit.
• Foster an inclusive learning environment in which all students and visitors feel welcomed, safe and valued.
• Maintain a high level of professionalism through collaborative relationships with others, regular and reliable
attendance, being a role model to the students, and meeting deadlines and deliverables.
• Actively and collaboratively work with Shiawassee RESD Mentor(s) to effectively lesson plan, unit plan, set
classroom expectations and execute instruction in ways that are meaningful and engaging to students.
• Participate in pre-approved CTE and CIP-specific professional development as directed by the CTE Director, CTE
Coordinator and Michigan Department of Education.
