ABOUT THE POSITION
Joining our ASCEND graduate development program, your first two years as an Electrical Software Engineer with Astec Omagh are designed to accelerate your early career journey, you will quickly become an integral part of our product design, development, validation and support engineering activities. You will have the opportunity to experience multiple aspects of engineering involvement across the full life cycle of our bulk materials handling and mobile crushing and screening products and assist us in meeting our customers’ needs and requirements, utilising the latest technologies.
We want a customer focused individual with the drive and commitment to make it happen. The ideal candidate should have a keen interest in control systems, automation and associate software. We are particularly interested in hearing from graduates, or suitably qualified individuals that wish to pursue a career in PLC software development / Automation (Siemens, Allen Bradly, CoDeSys etc.)
About the Role
Key Deliverables
· Support the Software Engineering team with code development, testing, deployment, bug fixes and full software lifecycle activities, for mobile and industrial applications.
· Perform test bench and on platform pre-release software testing to ensure a high degree of software integrity.
· Work with the controls team to create system specifications, documented control methodologies, test plans and compliance documentation.
· Develop knowledge of latest industry trends and technologies in mobile and industrial automation systems.
· Work with Sales and customers to ensure that the requested product specifications are clearly documented.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
· Gain experience in PLC software starting out with edits of existing software / sub routines and progressing towards control function development and full systems development.
· Liaise with other engineering functions to ensure clear requirements gathering for control systems.
· Strong focus on new product development and resolution of complex issues on existing designs where needed.
· Provide electrical training and assistance when required for customers.
· Constantly evaluate ways to streamline costs in electrical projects.
· Follow company policies and procedures at all times.
· Follow proper safety rules and procedures at all times.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
To be successful in this role, your experience and competencies are:
· Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechatronics or other relevant qualification.
· Willingness to develop experience in control system architecture, hardware and software.
· An emerging ability to concept control system software and behaviour for machine systems / subsystems.
· Some knowledge of associated mechanical and hydraulic systems would be an advantage.
· Knowledge of ISO / BS Standards relevant to the equipment.
· Sound knowledge of electrical engineering principles for software development and management.
· Capable of logical thinking and system fault finding in heavy equipment.
· Ability to work effectively with a wide range of company departments and customers.
· Ability to communicate, in oral or written form, is required.
· Working knowledge of CoDeSys, Siemens, Engine diagnostic software would be beneficial but not essential.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Manufacturing Environment
Shop manufacturing environment exposures include exposure to moving mechanical parts, machinery, tools and equipment, vibration, fumes or airborne particles, motorized vehicles, welding and machining operations, outside weather conditions and exposure to the risk of electric shock. The employee may occasionally be exposed to varying levels of dirt, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, very warm and/or very chilly temperatures. The noise level in the shop can be very loud at times consistent with an industrial assembly facility and may require hearing protection.
