Elementary Math Coach


 


 


Position Title:      Elementary Math Coach


 


Primary Function:   Improve student achievement by building teacher capacity through job-embedded professional development, including modeling, co-planning, and data-driven feedback. They serve as instructional leaders, implementing evidence-based reading strategies and supporting a school-wide culture of mathematics. 


 


Minimum Qualifications:


 



  • Must have a valid SC Teachers Certificate

  • 5 years of successful classroom experience, including math instruction

  • Comprehensive knowledge of mathematical concepts, instructional strategies, and best practices

  • Ability to effectively organize, present, and facilitate 

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Adept in collecting and analyzing data and developing action plans in response to student and teacher needs

  • Excellent interpersonal skills (communication, problem solving, collaboration) to share research based instructional practices with teachers and administrators through modeling lessons, providing staff development, mentoring, and coaching





Professional Responsibilities:


 



  • The math coach shall serve as a resource for professional development throughout the school in order to improve math instruction and to promote student achievement.

  • The math coach will work alongside the literacy coach to plan effective professional development, analyze student data, examine curricular resources, and determine responses to tiered systems of support for students. 

  • The math coach will collect, organize, and analyze student math data to determine tiered instruction for all grade levels. 

  • The math coach will participate in school-wide MTSS meetings to provide accurate information and input for the continuum of service delivery for students.

  • The math coach shall support and provide ongoing professional development for teachers based on the analysis of student assessments to promote differentiated instruction and intensive interventions for students when needed.

  • The math coach shall work with all grade levels in the school to promote and advance math instruction and student achievement. 

  • The math coach shall attend all meetings and trainings as provided by the district Director of Mathematics. 

  • The math coach shall serve as a resource for the principal/administrators by mentoring and coaching in the classrooms.

  • The math coach shall promote effective strategies for teachers by modeling best practices with whole groups of students, small groups of students, or with individual students.   

  • The math coach shall facilitate professional study/learning groups, PLOs, and lead and support grade level planning.

  • The math coach shall support district efforts to provide courses and professional development to promote teacher effectiveness by:


    • Conducting professional learning community meetings (PLC’s)

    • Collaborating with teachers to plan meetings to incorporate research-based practice into classrooms

    •  Conducting math coaching sessions for individual teachers or grade levels

    • Observing classroom teachers to support best practices 



The math coach may not be assigned a regular classroom teaching assignment or perform administrative functions that significantly deter from the primary role of providing professional development, mentoring/coaching teachers, improving math instruction, and improving overall student performance.


 


Evaluation:


Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with School Board policy and administrative regulations


 on the evaluation of licensed personnel.


                                               


Contract Length:                  195 days (adjusted for start date)


 


Salary:                                    Spartanburg School District Six Salary Schedule
