Job Description

IAM Cloud builds software that simplifies IT management in the cloud. We are a fully employee owned, bootstrapped company — which means we answer to our customers and our team, not investors. With around 35 employees, we serve more than 2,500 organisations worldwide.

Being employee owned shapes how we work. Decisions are long-term, the culture is collaborative, and the people who build the company share in its success. We have leaned deliberately into AI and agentic workflows across the business as a core part of how a focused team competes with companies ten times our size. We are fully remote with employees in the UK, Ireland, Spain, Germany and Argentina and have been remote for years, as a deliberate choice about how good work gets done.

We are looking for a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer to join our small, capable engineering team. This is a senior position within our DevOps function, with the scope to shape how we build, deploy, and operate the platforms that thousands of organisations rely on every day.

Today, our infrastructure runs on Microsoft Azure, with GitHub Enterprise for source control and CI/CD (migrating to GitHub Actions), Bicep + PowerShell for infrastructure as code, and GitHub Copilot embedded across the engineering workflow. Where we want to go is broader: more containerised workloads, stronger observability, security baked deeper into our pipelines, and a developer experience that lets the rest of engineering ship safely without waiting on us. You will help take us there.

Because we are small, you will have an unusually broad remit. You will own significant parts of our infrastructure end-to-end, work directly with developers and senior leadership, and have a real say in technical direction. If you want the autonomy of a senior role without the politics of a larger org, you will fit well here.

What you'll achieve

In your first 90 days

  • Get hands-on with our Azure environment, our Bicep templates, and our deployment pipelines — and make at least one meaningful improvement to a pipeline or a piece of infrastructure based on what you find.
  • Take ownership of one or two core components of our infrastructure and become the go-to person for them.
  • Build relationships with the developers, testers, and operations colleagues you will work with day to day, and understand how our platform supports our customers.
  • Identify two or three concrete things we should change about how we build, deploy, or operate— and start a plan to do them.

In your first 12 months

  • Have led a substantial improvement to our platform — for example, introducing container orchestration where it makes sense, strengthening our observability stack, or hardening our security posture across the pipeline.
  • Helped lift the team's overall practice — sharing what you know, mentoring more junior engineers when they join, and shaping how decisions get made.
  • Reduced toil in a measurable way: less churn, faster deployments, less time spent firefighting.
  • Helped define a clearer technical direction for our platform over the next two to three years, with you as one of the people driving it.

What you'll do day to day

  • Design, build, and maintain the cloud infrastructure that powers our products, with infrastructure as code as the default.
  • Improve our CI/CD pipelines so deployments are fast, safe, and boring.
  • Strengthen monitoring, alerting, and incident response so we find issues before customers do.
  • Embed security into how we build and deploy — automated scanning, sensible secrets management, sane defaults.
  • Work directly with engineers across the company to remove friction from how they build, test, and ship.
  • Take part in a light-touch on-call rotation; we work hard to keep it quiet.
  • Mentor others and contribute to the technical direction of the team.

 Must-have

  • Several years of senior-level experience building and operating production cloud infrastructure (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP experience transfers well).
  • Deep, practical experience with infrastructure as code — Bicep, Terraform or similar. We use Bicep, but if you're strong in Terraform you will pick it up quickly.
  • Solid scripting skills — PowerShell, Bash, Python, or Go
  • Real experience designing and running CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar).
  • Experience with a modern observability stack — Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Datadog, New Relic, or similar.
  • A strong grasp of networking, identity, and security fundamentals in a cloud environment.
  • Comfortable working in a small,fully-remote team — clear written communication, good judgement on when to ask, and a bias toward fixing things.

Nice to have

  • Experience running containerised workloads in production (Kubernetes / AKS, Docker, Helm, or similar).
  • DevSecOps experience: container scanning, secret management (e.g.Vault, Key Vault),policy-as-code(OPA), supply-chain security.
  • Coding experience/understanding a codebase, building or contributing to internal developer platforms, golden paths, or self-service tooling etc.
  • FinOps awareness —designing for cost as well as for performance.
  • Experience with GitOps workflows (Argo CD, Flux), or hands-on experience using AI coding assistants and agentic workflows (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar) to accelerate infrastructure and platform work.
  • Microsoft certifications (AZ-104, AZ-400, AZ-305etc) or equivalent.

Our stack

We try to be honest about where we are and where we are heading, rather than listing every fashionable tool. Today our platform is built on:

  • Cloud: Microsoft Azure (App Services, Front Door, Azure SQL, network virtual appliances, and more).
  • Infrastructure as code: Bicep, with PowerShell for tooling and automation.
  • CI/CD and source control: GitHub Enterprise with Copilot, migrating from Azure DevOps pipelines to GitHub Actions. We use GitHub Copilot across the engineering team — including its agentic coding features — and it has meaningfully changed how we work.
  • Languages and run times across the wider engineering team: predominantly .NET, with a range of supporting services.

Areas we want to invest in over the next 12–24 months , and where you can have an outsized impact, include containerisation, deeper observability, more security automation, better self-service tooling for the rest of engineering, and pushing further into AI-assisted and agentic workflows across our platform and operations.

How we work

  • Fully remote across the UK.We meet in person a few times a year for team events, but day-to-day work is remote.
  • Small, senior team. You will work directly with engineering leadership and have real input into technical decisions.
  • Async-friendly. We use writing as our default mode of communication and avoid meetings when a written update will do.
  • On-call is shared and light. We invest in making the platform boring rather than relying on heroics.
  • We run on trust, not surveillance. We care about outcomes and the wellbeing of the people who deliver them.

Compensation and benefits

Guaranteed £2,000 pay rise every year you're with us, separate from any merit or promotion increases.

Time off and flexibility

  • 26 days holiday plus public holidays, with the option to swap public holidays for days that are more meaningful to you.
  • Your birthday and work anniversary day off, every year.
  • Up to 4 weeks per year working from anywhere in the world.
  • Genuinely flexible, fully remote working —we trust you to manage your own time.

Health, family, and wellbeing

  • Generous Becoming a Parent leave, designed to support every kind of family.
  • Medical scheme including remote GP, dental, optical, and diagnostics.
  • Access to Support Room — confidential counselling, therapy, and coaching.
  • Help@Hand employee assistance programme.
  • 5x salary life insurance through Unum.
  • High standard of equipment to do your best work from home.

Money and growth

  • Up to 10% pension match.
  • Annual learning and development budget.

Our commitment to inclusion

We want IAM Cloud to be a place where talented people from any background can do the best work of their careers. We hire on capability and potential, and we welcome applications from people of all backgrounds, ages, ethnicities, religions, gender identities, sexual orientations, and abilities.

If you need any adjustments to the application or interview process — for accessibility reasons or anything else — please tell us when you apply, and we will work with you to make it work.

Interview process

We respect your time and aim to keep this efficient. Our typical process looks like this:

  • Initial conversation (45-60 minutes) — a chat with our Head of People about you, the role, and any questions you have.
  • Technical conversation (60-90 minutes) —a discussion with a couple of our senior engineers about your experience, our stack, and how you've approached real problems. This will also include a practical exercise — a short, scoped live exercise relevant to the work you'd actually do here.
  • Final conversation (45–60 minutes) — meet our CIO and one or two future team-mates to talk about the team, the company, and the road ahead.
Thanks for taking an interest in IAM Cloud. We are a bit different to a lot of companies. We are not here to make a fast buck. We are not trying to growth hack our way to success at any cost. We are not funded by VCs or any external investors. We make our decisions based on what's important to us as a team and what's important to our customers. Our vision is not constrained to a year, or 3, 5, or even 10 years. We are here to create awesome technology that makes a positive impact in the world.

Our main aim is to create a company that works for us, rather than feeling like we're working for it. We're flexible and adaptive to the needs of our employees in any way we can be. We primarily look to recruit in the UK and Ireland but may make exceptions for strong candidates.

What you get from us:
Exciting & challenging work. A supportive and caring employer. 100% remote roles. Flexible hours. Highly competitive pay and benefits.
