Summary
This position has been created to help with the annual spring move-out drive for the dorms. The initiative involves collecting small appliances (such as fridges, microwaves, air fryers, fans, and monitors) from students moving out of the dorms who no longer want them. These items will be given to incoming students in August. Unopened, non-perishable food as well as opened and unopened cleaning products will also be collected for redistribution.
Essential Functions
Sort appliances at the collection site (including but not limited to small fridges, microwaves, portable fans, TV monitors, and air fryers) into categories of items to be kept and items to be discarded.
Sort non-perishable food items at the collection site into categories of items to be kept and items to be discarded.
Load and transport all collected appliances to the storage location, including driving the golf cart if necessary.
Load and transport non-perishable food items to the pantry, including driving the golf cart if necessary.
Unload, clean, and stack appliances at the storage location.
Unload food items at the pantry and assist with stacking.
Qualifications/Requirements
Must be a Barry Undergraduate or Graduate student.
Must be able to perform physical labor.
Must be available to work from May 4 – May 12. Hours are flexible but once students commit, they must work them as their help is crucial in this pilot. Since this period is during the last week of class and during finals, students must commit to these hours carefully.
Ability to handle other small appliances and non-perishable food items.
Ability to lift and move small appliances, such as personal refrigerators and microwaves, up and down stairs.
