About the Department
The Professor of Cosmetology shall report to the Director of Cosmetology. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Teach Cosmetology classes each semester, as assigned.
- Provide instructional lab and salon supervision for NMJC students;
- Prepare pertinent lessons and demonstrations for all assigned classes;
- Prepare/update a detailed course syllabus for Cosmetology classes, each semester;
- Instruct, lecture, or guide each class meeting in an organized manner;
- Provide appropriate curriculum assessment of each student;
- Assign and document all grading procedures for each class participant;
- Maintain required Cosmetology certification(s) and maintain professional development currency in all subject matter taught;
- Submit all assigned paperwork properly and within assigned deadlines;
- Have current knowledge of the Cosmetology industry;
- Model professionalism and good human relations skills for students;
- Attend departmental advisory board meetings;
- Maintain appropriate state licensure;
- Accept other duties as assigned; and,
- Nothing contained herein shall limit the President in assigning the employee to any of the various college activities for which he/she would be qualified in order to meet the needs of New Mexico Junior College.
Position Duties
- A minimum of one year of experience working in the field of Cosmetology.
- Must hold a current New Mexico Cosmetology Instructors license or be immediately eligible for a provisional instructor's license upon hire;
- Associate's degree from an accredited institution preferred.
- Candidate should have good human relation skills, knowledge of the state board requirements, and current knowledge of the Cosmetology service industry.
- Must possess the ability to instruct a diverse student population. Must be comfortable with a range of instructional technology.
Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of College, departmental, and standard office policies and procedures.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of the principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in curriculum development, lesson planning and classroom instruction.
- Skill in proficient operation of a personal computer.
- Skill in English composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Ability to meet assigned course and departmental deadlines.
Other Qualifications
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire. This position is not eligible for Visa Sponsorship.
This is a nine-month faculty position. Salary is based on the NMJC faculty salary schedule and is commensurate with education and experience for a nine-month position. Standard benefits apply.
