    This is a 1.0 FTE position as a 5th Language Arts teacher for the 2026-2027 school year at Lafayette Sunnyside Intermediate School.  Applicants must be licensed from the State of Indiana in Elementary Education or in Language covering grades 5 and 6. Consideration will be given to applicants who are enrolled in a state approved Transition to Teaching program or who are eligible for an Emergency Permit in Elementary Education assuming the prerequisite skills are possessed.  Those already on a certified contract with the Lafayette School Corporation should complete an INTERNAL application by Thursday, April 30, 2026.  Candidates who are not currently on a certified contract with the Lafayette School Corporation should complete an external application through Applitrack.

    Position Summary

    Sunnyside Intermediate School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered 5th Grade Language Arts teacher to deliver engaging instruction that strengthens students' reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. The successful candidate will design standards-aligned lessons that promote literacy development, critical thinking, and effective communication. Instruction should include a balanced approach to reading comprehension, vocabulary development, writing across genres, and language conventions, while fostering a love of reading and writing.

    Working collaboratively with grade-level teams, the teacher will support the academic, social, and developmental growth of intermediate students. The role includes differentiating instruction to meet diverse learner needs, using data to inform instruction, and creating a positive, inclusive classroom environment that prepares students for continued success in middle school and beyond.


    Qualifications

    Required

    • Valid Indiana teaching license in Elementary Education
    • Valid Indiana teaching license in Language Arts covering grades 5-6

    Preferred Consideration

    • Applicants enrolled in a state-approved Transition to Teaching program in Elementary Education
    • Candidates eligible for an Indiana Emergency Permit in Elementary Education if prerequisite competencies are demonstrated.
