Job Description
JOB TITLE:        Seasonal Laborer

DEPARTMENT:  Parks, Recreation & Civic Facilities

DIVISION:           Park Maintenance

SALARY:             $15.922115

CLOSING DATE: Until filled

Job Summary

Maintains parks facilities and fields, which includes mowing, sanitation services, trimming, care of trees and brush and the minor repair of park equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Mows and trims park grounds.
  • Provides general upkeep to park facilities and grounds.
  • Repairs minor park equipment including park benches, picnic tables, playground equipment, etc.
  • Assists in the operation of dump trucks and trash trucks with trash and debris disposal when assigned.
  • Maintains the softball and baseball fields.
  • Cleans and maintains park restrooms.
  • Paints benches and tables as needed.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assists in delivery of equipment for city sponsored events and projects.
  • May on occasion work with prison work release inmates.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.

Required (Essential) Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Skills in effective operation of necessary equipment used in the daily maintenance of the park grounds and fields.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety requirements associated with equipment operation.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, which will include evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform tasks with minimum supervision.

Material and Equipment Directly Used

Operates a variety of equipment used in routine maintenance, including mowers, weed eaters, trucks, tractors, chainsaws, small hand tools and other equipment related to maintenance of parks and fields.  There may be times when use of personal vehicle may be required.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Majority of work is performed in an outdoor setting where weather conditions can vary from extreme heat and cold, with high levels of dust, dirt, fumes and noise.  Physical activity includes prolonged standing, bending, stooping, lifting, walking and uses arms and hands frequently.  Must have the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 to 75 pounds and assist in lifting objects weighing in excess of 100 pounds.  Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes.  Vacation and other leave scheduling shall be requested of and approved by the appropriate supervisor.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.  Valid Driver's License required. Must be at least 16 years of age.
