Key Responsibilities
1. Player Development
Teach core linebacker fundamentals: tackling, block shedding, pursuit angles, and coverage techniques
Develop position-specific skills (inside vs. outside linebackers)
Conduct individual and group drills to improve technique and football IQ
2. Film Study & Game Preparation
Break down opponent film to identify tendencies, formations, and keys
Prepare scouting reports for the linebacker unit
Teach players how to study film effectively and recognize offensive cues
3. Practice Planning & Execution
Design and implement daily practice drills specific to linebackers
Coordinate with the Defensive Coordinator on team defensive periods
Emphasize situational football (goal line, red zone, 2-minute, 3rd down)
4. Game Day Responsibilities
Make in-game adjustments based on offensive tendencies
Communicate defensive calls and adjustments to players
Monitor player performance and substitutions
5. Scheme Implementation
Teach and reinforce defensive schemes (fronts, fits, coverages, pressures)
Ensure linebackers understand run fits, gap integrity, and coverage responsibilities
Align unit play with overall defensive philosophy
