Key Responsibilities

1. Player Development

• Teach core linebacker fundamentals: tackling, block shedding, pursuit angles, and coverage techniques

• Develop position-specific skills (inside vs. outside linebackers)

• Conduct individual and group drills to improve technique and football IQ

2. Film Study & Game Preparation

• Break down opponent film to identify tendencies, formations, and keys

• Prepare scouting reports for the linebacker unit

• Teach players how to study film effectively and recognize offensive cues

3. Practice Planning & Execution

• Design and implement daily practice drills specific to linebackers

• Coordinate with the Defensive Coordinator on team defensive periods

• Emphasize situational football (goal line, red zone, 2-minute, 3rd down)

4. Game Day Responsibilities

• Make in-game adjustments based on offensive tendencies

• Communicate defensive calls and adjustments to players

• Monitor player performance and substitutions

5. Scheme Implementation

• Teach and reinforce defensive schemes (fronts, fits, coverages, pressures)

• Ensure linebackers understand run fits, gap integrity, and coverage responsibilities

• Align unit play with overall defensive philosophy
