Position:



Music Teacher (Long-Term Substitute)



Location: 



James W. Parker Middle School



Certification: 



Valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate for Music Education PK-12 (required)


 

Job Selection Expectations: 



Applications, resumes, letters of reference, and written samples will be reviewed for required certification; demonstrated related knowledge, skills, and abilities; and ability to communicate effectively.  As candidates progress through the selection process, they may be asked to perform additional written exercises, complete panel interviews, and perform a sample lesson related to the subject area. 



Application Requirements:



Applicants are expected to possess a valid and appropriate certificate for the vacant position at the time of application as well as all necessary clearances. Additional qualifications and experience will be considered and may be necessary or desirable for individual positions along with a demonstrated competency in writing and communication skills. 


 



Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 




  • Knowledge of middle school vocal and general music instruction and age-appropriate teaching strategies

  • Understanding of classroom management practices that support a positive and productive learning environment

  • Knowledge of music literacy concepts including rhythm, melody, harmony, notation, and basic vocal techniques

  • Familiarity with Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Music

  • Ability to implement prepared lesson plans while maintaining continuity of instruction

  • Ability to adapt instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students

  • Ability to lead vocal rehearsals, classroom singing activities, and general music lessons effectively

  • Skill in communicating clearly and professionally with students, staff, and families

  • Ability to establish positive relationships with middle school students and encourage student engagement

  • Knowledge of basic assessment practices for evaluating student participation and musical growth

  • Ability to integrate technology and multimedia resources into music instruction when appropriate

  • Skill in organizing classroom materials, equipment, and music resources responsibly

  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, administration, and support staff

  • Understanding of student safety procedures and appropriate supervision practices

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all school-related matters

  • Skill in differentiating instruction for varying musical backgrounds and ability levels

  • Ability to motivate students and foster creativity, confidence, and teamwork through music

  • Knowledge of performance preparation procedures for concerts or school events

  • Ability to follow district policies, procedures, and expectations consistently

  • Demonstrated reliability, flexibility, and professionalism in a school setting

Quarter 1 of the 2026-2027 school year
