Job Description

TITLE:            Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) 

DEPARTMENT:            Anesthesia

POSITION STATUS/HOURS:    Full-time position plus call (Scheduled cases run from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.). Hours and schedule will vary based on surgical & procedure schedule. 

Schedule:

    12 days on/9 days off (off every 3rd week). Approximately 158 days off/year. 

    Weekend and Holiday coverage follows the assigned first-call schedule. 

Call Responsibilities:

    First Call: Covers OR cases; 30 minute response time after scheduled cases end. (roughly 121 days/year)

    Second Call: Assists in the OR until 3:00 p.m.. Remains available (within 30 minutes) until first call provider is done with cases. (roughly 86 days/year) 

Response time for call is 30 minutes.  Benefit eligible position.


JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for performing Anesthesia functions as required by GRHC guidelines for the Practice of Anesthesia. Services provided by GRHC CRNAs include surgical anesthetics, sedation for invasive or painful procedures, response to emergency situations, and provision of analgesic services as requested and appropriate. This will be through local, regional, and general anesthesia (blocks, spinals, epidurals, etc.). Providers must be able to plan for and demonstrate knowledge and competence as well as appropriate anesthesia services for all ages (newborn through geriatric) and physical classifications.    


GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties would include, but not be limited to the following:

    Performs preanesthetic evaluations

    Confers with the surgeon about the anesthetic to be administered

    Assembles anesthesia equipment

    Delivers anesthesia according to accepted standards; remains knowledge of and in conformance with applicable rules, regulations, Joint Commission standards, and other government regulatory agency requirements

    Performs and documents orders and considerations specific by the surgeon

    Performs monitoring procedures pertinent to the anesthetic management of the patient and according to the type of anesthetic administered

    Transfers care and reports to the postoperative nurse

    Recognizes and takes appropriate corrective action for abnormal patient responses to anesthesia, adjunctive medication or other forms of therapy

    Maintains equipment and supplies

    Performs post-anesthetic evaluation

    Assists with strategic planning, budgeting, variance analysis and conformance as needed

    Attends mandatory in services and actively supports hospital safety, infection control, continuous performance improvement and risk management programs

    Recognizes patient/customer level of psychosocial development and modifies approach accordingly

    Performs other related duties as assigned or requested within scope of practice.


QUALIFICATIONS:

    Current RN License in the State of Wisconsin.

    Current Advance Practice Nurse Practitioner in the State of Wisconsin. 

    Current DEA License.

    Credentialed by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA)

    Current certification from the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA) 

    Preferred: two years of clinical experience as a nurse anesthetist. 

    Applicants must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. 

    Applicants must have the ability to work independently, multitask, and be flexible with scheduling.
