Registered Nurse / Floor Nurse – Job Summary (Florida LTC Facility)
Position Purpose
Provide direct nursing care to residents and supervise daily nursing activities of nursing assistants in compliance with the Florida Nurse Practice Act and all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Ensure the highest level of quality care at all times under the direction of the Director of Nursing or Nurse Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Nursing Care
Perform resident assessments on admission and ongoing
Administer medications and treatments as ordered
Monitor resident conditions and notify physicians/families of changes
Carry out skilled nursing procedures (wound care, tube feedings, catheterization, etc.)
Ensure care is delivered according to individualized care plans
Respond promptly to resident needs and emergencies
Follow post-mortem and end-of-life care procedures
Supervision & Leadership
Supervise and guide CNAs and LPNs during assigned shifts
Assign duties and ensure care plan compliance
Report performance issues, staffing concerns, and incidents
Foster a respectful, calm, and supportive work environment
Participate in employee evaluations and staff development
Documentation & Charting
Complete accurate and timely EMR documentation
Transcribe and verify physician orders
Document incidents, accidents, and changes in condition
Maintain compliance with charting and regulatory standards
Medication Management
Prepare, administer, and document medications safely
Manage narcotics according to legal and facility policies
Monitor medication supply and report discrepancies
Ensure adherence to stop orders and disposal procedures
Administrative & Regulatory Compliance
Participate in state and federal surveys
Assist with admissions, transfers, and discharges
Complete incident reports and discharge planning
Coordinate care with interdisciplinary departments
Safety, Infection Control & Environment
Enforce infection control and hand hygiene practices
Ensure safe use of equipment and PPE
Participate in fire, disaster, and emergency preparedness
Maintain clean, safe, and sanitary work areas
Resident Rights & Advocacy
Protect resident privacy and confidentiality
Ensure dignity, respect, and the right to refuse treatment
Address grievances and report abuse or neglect immediately
Education & Experience
Graduate of an accredited nursing program
Florida-licensed Registered Nurse (active and current)
One year of nursing experience preferred (LTC experience a plus)
On-the-job training provided
