Job Description

The Pool Sonographer 2 performs a full range of ultrasound examinations independently for subsequent evaluation and treatment by attending physician. Performs a variety of technical procedures requiring independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in applying ultrasound or diagnostic techniques for radiologic diagnosis. Responsible for the safety and comfort of all patients undergoing ultrasound/diagnostic procedures. Ensures that all procedures have been appropriately ordered with satisfaction patient identification obtained prior to conducting procedure. Performs all procedures according to departmental protocol. Performs other related duties as required. On call shifts required at the discretion of the Imaging Manager / Director.

Essential Functions

  • Presents a professional, welcoming, supportive, and calm demeanor during all aspects of interactions with patient.
  • Responsible for proper operation of imaging and specialty equipment, keeps abreast of uses of medical devices as related to cardiovascular ultrasound.
  • Responsible for acquiring and processing optimum images during exams for diagnostic interpretation.
  • Assumes responsibility and provides quality care for all procedures and exams performed.
  • Sets up exam rooms to include equipment, supplies and patient preparation requirements.
  • Acts as a resource for students and new staff, may serve as a preceptor for new staff and students.
  • Responsible for completing all aspects of patient care documentation following the established charting procedure.
  • Communicates patient needs and responses through appropriate verbal and written correspondence.
  • Explains procedures to patients to reduce their anxiety and obtain essential information.
     

Education

  • Technical Program Ultrasound Technology

Certification

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA)

  • Completed ARDMS Physics Exam or Obtained ARRT Sonography Registry

  • Obtained one (1) advanced certification with the ARDMS (i.e.: Abdomen, Breast, RVT or OB/GYN) or obtained CCI RVS certification

Work Experience and Additional Information

  • One (1) year of experience performing diagnostic imaging in clinical setting.
