THE ROLE

Position: Site Supervisor
Competition Number: CNS 2026-04-20
Location: Art Gallery of Nova Scotia, Halifax
Reports to: HRM District Manager

Working Hours: 0700-1500 Monday-Friday (some weekend and/or overtime will be required/necessary)
Hourly Wage: $20.22 per hour

Closing Date: May 4, 2026



Duties and Responsibilities:

This individual is under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer of the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia.

 

  • Advise the CFO or their representative of issues/concerns as they occur
  • Implement the policy of the CFO
  • Ensure sufficient number of security personnel on duty at all times
  • Supervise all security shifts ensuring that all members are properly trained and current in their duties
  • Carry out administration functions for Security, submitting returns and pay sheets as required
  • Ensure the proper dress, conduct and discipline of the Security personnel
  • Maintain key and visitor control records
  • During day shift, monitor alarms and direct staff
  • Assign duties to all Security staff
  • Arrange for shift replacement as required
  • Call in maintenance persons as required
  • Monitor CCTV feed for incidents, pull footage for investigation as required
  • Inform the designated persons of any unusual incidents or occurrences
  • Ensure proper completion of reports and forms when required

Eligibility Requirements

 

Candidates must:

  • Be aged 19 or older;
  • Be legally eligible to work in Canada;
  • Not have a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted;
  • Be able to provide fingerprints and complete a criminal record check;
  • Be eligible to apply for, and attain, Government of Canada secret security clearance;
  • Be able to communicate effectively in English

 

Qualifications and Skills
The incumbent must possess the following experience, skills, and attributes:

 

  • Exceptional customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgement and decision making in emergency situations
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize and adapt to changing situations
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to lead a team focused on the common goal of providing superior service to the client
  • Computer proficiency using MS Suite software
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Due to the scheduled hours, reliable transportation is required
  • Valid, graduates NS driver’s license required
