Join Our Team as a Civic Engagement Specialist!

 



Are you passionate about supporting the Behavioral Health & Justice Involved Population and making a real difference in their lives? EAC Network, a leading not-for-profit social service agency dedicated to helping over 80,000 people through 100 impactful programs across Long Island and NYC, is looking for a dedicated part time Civic Engagement Specialist to join our Civic Engagement Services department within Riker's Island.

 


 




  • Wage: $25 to $28 per hour

  • Schedule: 19 hours per week; 3 days per week - will coordinate with NYC Department of Corrections facility access hours and facility staff.

  • Location: Riker's Island



 



What are the key Responsibilities:




  • Provide in-custody, nonpartisan voter education to individuals regarding their eligibility to vote under New York State law.

  • Assist eligible individuals in completing voter registration forms and absentee ballot applications.

  • Facilitate voter registration drives across NYCDOC facilities in coordination with facility staff.

  • Conduct civic engagement workshops and educational sessions to promote awareness of civic rights and responsibilities.

  • Maintain strict neutrality and compliance with all federal, state, and local election laws.

  • Investigate and recommend supportive services for clients.

  • Submit completed voter registration and absentee ballot forms to the Division of Programs and Community Partnerships (DPCP) in accordance with established procedures.

  • Utilize the DOC program tracking database to record participation data accurately and timely.

  • Maintain sign-in sheets and attendance documentation for all service dates.

  • Comply with all NYCDOC security clearance procedures, volunteer trainings, and background check requirements.

  • Work exclusively from DOC-approved computer terminals and follow all facility security protocols.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision and EAC Network administration.



 



What key knowledge, skills, and abilities are required to excel in this role:




  • High School diploma or educational equivalent required

  • Demonstrated experience assisting individuals with voter registration strongly preferred.

  • Experience working in correctional or secure settings preferred.

  • Strong knowledge of New York State voting eligibility laws preferred. 

  • Ability to explain civic processes in a clear, nonpartisan, and accessible manner.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Ability to engage respectfully with justice-involved individuals.

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and database entry systems.

  • Ability to comply with institutional security requirements and maintain professional boundaries.
