    TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-month secretarial position. Other term as set by the Board of Education in accordance with the New London Public Schools Professional Secretaries' contract. 

     

    PRIMARY FUNCTION: To assure the efficient and smooth operation of the school office. 

     

    TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: This description of General Secretary is for identification and administrative purposes only. It is not intended to be a complete statement of all duties, which may be assigned or adjusted by the 

    Superintendent of Schools according to varying needs.

    • Answers and directs incoming phone calls and distributes incoming mail.
    • Reception duties to the school, including or limited to: greeting parents and visitors and
    • assisting them with their needs.
    • Inputting all attendance data into the student information system including but not limited to: daily attendance, tardies, and early dismissals.
    • Inputting of discipline data.
    • Oversight of a copying machines including but not limited to: machine maintenance, service calls, and stocking copier rooms with paper, toner and staples.
    • Filing.
    • Maintenance of cumulative folders.
    • Bulk mailings to parents and community members as directed by the building administration.
    • Distribution of materials.
    • Assists in task related to the opening and closing of school.
    • Inputting and maintenance of student information into student information data base.
    • Prepares and forwards transcripts for withdrawn students.
    • Performs such other related tasks as assigned by the Principal or Elementary Dean.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher.
    • Proficiency in typing.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Proficiency in data-base management (student information systems)
    • Strong communication skills. 

     

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

    • Bilingual

     

    SALARY:  in accordance with the New London Public Schools Professional Secretaries' contract.
