Job Description

Description

The Emergency Department (ED) RN acts as a team member by aiding in the supervision and administration of quality care in the hospital. The ED RN is accountable for planning, organizing, directing and delivering patient care by utilizing the nursing process in accordance with established policies and procedures among patient/family, medicine, nursing, ancillary and other team personnel in the Emergency Department. This position acts as a patient advocate, assessing patients for educational, physiological, psychosocial, comfort and safety needs. The ED RN maintains current knowledge and personal education about standards of professional nursing practices, and attends staff meetings and other trainings required by TVHC. This position allows for flexibility in scheduling the needs of a 24/7 facility. All employees perform their work duties in a manner which promotes and supports the Standards of Conduct of Teton Valley Healthcare; and demonstrate support of the organization’s mission, values, and vision in all actions and interactions with employees, patients, medical staff, guests and visitors. This is for swing shift

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

·         Directs, supervises, and provides professional nursing care in all areas of the hospital.

·         Works closely with the medical staff in the evaluation of patients and for the organization of an appropriate plan of care. Utilizes good assessment skills to make systematic observations to identify deviations from normal and any need for immediate intervention.

·         Provides appropriate nursing care for all patients and consults with /updates House Supervisor and/or Provider as necessary. This includes but is not limited to using good assessment skills to make systematic observations to identify deviations from normal and any need for immediate intervention.

·         Safely, timely, and accurately administers all medications and IV solutions, and completes the medication reconciliation process, and supervises Licensed Practical Nurses and Paramedics.

·         Executes legal orders based on knowledge of order’s cause and effect after verifying accuracy and no documented contraindications.

·         Assumes and follows disaster policies/procedures and maintains knowledge of the function of TVHC departments to ensure appropriate management of the facility during weekend and evening hours.

·         Documents provided patient care and patient conditions and uses approved abbreviations and computer programs/paperwork.

·         Reports medication events, unusual occurrences, employee injuries, and patient complaints to the Director of Emergency and Trauma Services, CNO, AOC and Employee Health as appropriate, as well as completes report in Action Cue.

·         Completes discharge planning and identifies short and long term patient goals and applies them to care plans.

·         Assists in orientation, education and direction of nursing, and paramedics.

·         Uses hospital admissions program to accurately admit hospital patients.

·         Assists with any other duties as assigned.

 

Summary

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

·         Current State of Idaho Registered Nurse License

·         Current BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications

  • TNCC and ENPC certifications within 1 year of hire

·         Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing

·         Basic knowledge in computer use; including email and electronic documentation

·         Intermediate math skills including algebra, equivalent logic and reasoning required for dosage calculations

·         Ability to use standard patient care equipment including handling flammable gases

·         Knowledge of use of available nursing resources such as approved textbooks and online sites for patient care

·         Ability to maintain and follow guidelines, set standards of practice in quality patient care, and state, federal, and facility required infection control practices

·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills matching our patients needs and TVHC’s mission, vision and values

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·         One year of hospital nursing experience

·         Current TNCC and ENPC Certifications – required within six months of hire

·         Additional languages – Spanish Preferred
