Description

SCHEDULE: 16 hours, Saturday-Sanday  6:45PM – 3:15PM. This position is essential in the event of an emergency. 


 

Pays $21.40 - $23.97 per hour DOE (Salary ranges provided are based on relevant experience and skill set) 


LOCATION: 28 Rockwell Street, Dorchester, Coverage at Other Locations as Requested. This 

position works on site; remote work is not available.


Summary of the Position:


The Weekend Morning Counselor is responsible for ensuring the overall safety and well-being of program participants at 28 Rockwell Street during the morning shift. The Weekend Morning Counselor assists participants with breakfast and lunch meals, morning routines, and activities of daily living (ADL) skills. The incumbent collaborates with other staff to engage participants in structured and leisure activities throughout the shift.

The Weekend Morning Counselor creates and maintains a respectful, supportive environment that empowers chronically homeless individuals with severe mental illness to achieve their highest level of functioning. The Counselor is assigned participants with whom they assist in developing and following individualized treatment plans, documenting progress in logs and charts.

The Weekend Morning Counselor ensures that all floors are clean and orderly, including kitchens, hallways, bathrooms, and participant rooms. The Counselor facilitates groups during the morning shift and supports the Housing First/Safe Haven model. Due to emergency or unforeseen program needs, staff may be temporarily or permanently reassigned to another Safe Haven program.



Requirements

Education/Training:


Required:

  • High School diploma or GED

Knowledge/Experience:


Required:   

  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in a shelter, community residence or in an inpatient setting
  • Experience maintaining a safe environment for clients in a program setting
  • Experience as a human services team member
  • Familiarity with the concepts of rehabilitation and consumer empowerment
  • Experience with dually diagnosed individuals
  • Experience assisting people with ADL skills
  • Comfort level working with participants with untreated psychiatric conditions
  • Comfort with a harm reduction approach to substance abuse
  • Effective writing and verbal skills

Preferred:

  • Previous experience working with a Housing First/Safe Haven model
  • Experience with the homeless population
