    SCHOOL BUS DRIVER JOB DESCRIPTION
     
    QUALIFICATIONS:  
    1. Must have or be able to obtain a valid Colorado driver’s license and a CDL license
    2. Must have or be able to obtain a valid school bus driver’s permit if applicable.
    3. Pass DOT Drug Screen and Mandatory Drug Testing
    4. Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
    5. Must pass a physical as required to meet current rules
    6. Must have or be able to obtain a current first aid/CPR card
    7. Must have a satisfactory driving record
    8. Must be versatile to the varying demands of the local district
    9. Must be able to read and comprehend the “Rules and Regulations Governing the Operation of School Transportation Vehicles.”
    10. Must be able to deal with students, employees, and citizens of the community in a friendly and tactful manner
    11. Pass annual CDE written, driving, pre-trip tests and annual MVR check.
    REPORTS TO:
    The superintendent and/or principal as needed.
     
    JOB GOAL:
    Assume and perform the duties of school bus driver as directed by the Board of Education and administration. Assume the responsibility to develop and maintain a relationship with other personnel, parents and students that is harmonious and productive.
     
    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 
    1. Operate a school transportation vehicle in accordance with DOT, Commercial Drivers Regulations, Colorado Motor Vehicle Code, CDE Operational Rules, ECSD Transportation policies and emergency procedures and FCC Regulations
    2. Any such procedures will outline a general routine to be followed and will provide a framework within which all designated personnel can function efficiently in the performance of their duties.
    3. Obey all traffic laws.
    4. Observe all mandatory safety regulations for school vehicles.
    5. Possess a high level of responsibility for the safety of students on the bus and maintain discipline at all times.
    6. Communicate, in a timely manner, with parents and staff regarding issues of student welfare.
    7. Keep assigned bus clean.
    8. Keep to assigned schedule.
    9. Become familiar with and observe the “Rules and Regulations Governing the Operation of School Transportation Vehicles”.
    10. Conduct Pre-trip and Post-trip inspections as prescribed.
    11. Report mechanical failures, etc. as prescribed.
    12. Conduct emergency evacuation drills as prescribed.
    13. Keep a daily mileage record as prescribed.
    14. Complete any other such forms as prescribed.
    15. Renew licenses, endorsements and certifications as required by Federal and State law.
    16. Assume and perform the duties of school bus driver as directed by the Board of Education and/or administration.
