Job Goal: To organize programs to strengthen the relationships between home and school and create opportunities to encourage involvement of parents in the education of their child(ren).
Qualifications:
- Ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Knowledge of educational policies, or ability/willingness to learn.
- Proficient with technology.
- Major in social work, education, family relations, or psychology preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establishes, utilizes and maintains an effective system for working with students, parents, schools, social agencies and other individuals and agencies needed to assist in resolving attendance issues and problems to increase student attendance and achievement.
- Assists students, families and school personnel in developing agreed upon documented goals and outcomes; monitors progress and communicates with appropriate individuals and agencies.
- Assess family and student needs to develop and implement an action plan to remove barriers to the child’s success in school.
- Implement a variety of programs to involve parents, students, and the community in school affairs (e.g. site tours, information on services, parent training workshops, etc.) to establish familiarity with programs, services, and processes.
- Participate in a variety of meetings and committees (e.g. serve as liaison for parents, child advocate; conventions, classes, and seminars to increase parent involvement, decrease attendance issues, decrease dropout rates, updates on laws that pertain to foster care, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and remaining knowledgeable with program guidelines.
- Plan family meetings and parent involvement events (e.g. health and welfare, nutrition, counseling, problem-solving, conflict resolution, emotional, physical, and academic support; clubs and groups, etc.) to meet family support needs and comply with established guidelines.
- Serves as a major communication link between family and school.
- Assist schools in developing plans for parent participation with ongoing communication between home and school. Help and aid counselors in getting students to school and overall student success.
- Plan enrichment opportunities beyond the school day to increase opportunities for students around the areas of STEM, physical fitness, music and art.
- Assist school and administration in helping to plan, schedule, and implementation of special department initiatives to meet objectives and schedules. For example, Positivity Project and other research-based initiatives to help students and staff.
- Assist with the school newsletter information.
- Perform other related functions and duties as assigned to ensure job functions retain efficient and effective operation.
