Job Description

DEFINITION OF POSITION:  Gender and Sexuality Alliance (GSA) is a place where all students can belong. This space is for students who identify as LGBTQIA+, their allies, and anyone who wants to learn more or join a supportive community. This club is a safe space for students to have fun, form relationships, and be themselves. We also have conversations regarding identity, gender, equal rights / equity, and social issues that are important to middle school students. We explore activism, queer history, and discuss personal struggles. The goal is to build a strong culture of acceptance and community within the club, in order to help students feel connected to their school.


 


IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Building Assistant Principal 


 


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • Successful experience working with middle school age students

  • Successful experience creating a safe space for students who identify as LGBTQIA+

  • Successful experience facilitating conversations regarding identity, gender, equal rights/equity, and social issues that are important to middle school students 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:



  • BA degree in education and/or experience with school-aged children

  • Experience with student activism

  • Current building employee


ESSENTIAL JOB-RELATED ACTIVITIES:



  • Work effectively with middle school-age children

  • Work effectively with students who identify as LGBTQIA+ and their allies

  • Take directions and follow through without direct supervision

  • Work positively, respectfully, and consistently with students in situations of discipline regardless of their challenges

  • Conduct weekly meetings with GSA students

  • Create a safe space for students who identify as LGBTQIA+ and their allies

  • Assist students in exploration of school level activism and queer history

  • Possess and practice strong interpersonal skills with a wide variety of people both inside and outside the organization (staff, parents, community members, other agencies)

  • Be a positive team builder who works in a collaborative manner

  • Meet multiple demands in pressure situations and maintain high levels of quality work

  • Maintain confidentiality

  • Communicate clearly, orally and in writing

  • Regularly demonstrate professionalism in appearance, actions, decisions, and overall performance

  • Work with minimal supervision and be flexible

  • Perform other related duties as assigned  


TERMS OF CONTRACT:



  • Salary: Stipend Position: $1,048 - $1,228 per school year

  • Benefits/Leaves: N/A
