    Job Title: Special Education Teacher
    Reports To: Principal
    Location: Greene County Elementary School
    Employment Type: Full-Time

    Job Summary:
     

    The Special Education Teacher (Level 1) will provide support to specially designed instruction in the area of behavior to students with IEPs, assist and support teachers as needed at the discretion of the principal. They will be a member of the Greene County Elementary School staff who is responsible for fostering a positive, inclusive learning environment.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Implement behavior intervention strategies to support students with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges.
    • Work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, and administrators to develop and implement individualized behavior support plans and Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
    • Conduct observations and data collection to assess student behavior and intervention effectiveness.
    • Provide direct support to students in crisis situations, using de-escalation techniques and restorative practices.
    • Work closely with parents and caregivers to provide guidance and support in managing student behavior at school and home.
    • Participate in team meetings, Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, and Response to Intervention (RTI) discussions as needed.
    • Maintain accurate and confidential records of student behavior and interventions.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.

    Qualifications:

    • Education: Bachelor's degree in Education preferred; Licesne for Special Education (Level 1 or willingness to obtain)
    • Experience: Preferred, but not required.

    Skills & Competencies:

    • Strong understanding of instructional strategies to assist in closing gaps of our students
    • Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and families.
    • Excellent communication and conflict-resolution skills.
    • Knowledge of de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed practices.
    • Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and progress monitoring.
    • Patience, empathy, and cultural competency in working with diverse student populations. 

    Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

    • Work is performed in a school setting, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces.
    • Must be able to stand, walk; May involve occasional lifting of materials and participation in physical activities with students.
