Job Description

TITLE:                                             Director of Technology                                            


 


REPORTS TO:                      Superintendent                                                                  


 


LENGTH OF CONTRACT OR WORK YEAR:             12 months (240 days)                        


 



          


SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:



  1. Provides leadership for short and long-range planning for all technology initiatives: vision, goals, program objectives/strategies/activities, infrastructure, staffing, training, evaluation, budgeting, and collaboration with others.

  2. Facilitates IT security audits or investigations.

  3. Provides leadership in identifying hardware and software purchases, ensuring consistency within the school system instructional technology plan and state technology guidelines. 

  4. Serves as coordinator for the Universal Service E-Rate program for the district and assists with all technology grants received through the program.

  5. Maintains an inventory of all district hardware and software and service maintenance agreements.

  6. Reviews, approves, purchases, and maintains appropriate computer hardware, software, and data communication equipment acquisitions, and oversees the installation and maintenance of that equipment.

  7. Supervises technology personnel, including selection of new employees, employee transfer/promotions, and evaluation of employees. 

  8. Communicates with district and school personnel on long-range plans and status of technology and serves as liaison to Mississippi Department of Education technology staff.

  9. Oversee the implementation of state testing platforms as required for assessing student achievement.  Assist with state testing to ensure all student devices are up to date with the correct operating system, platform installation, secure browsers and verification of capacity estimators.

  10. Any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.

  11. Regular in person attendance.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Information Services, Computer Engineering, or related technology field.

  2. Exhibit outstanding mastery of computer hardware, software and network utilization.

  3. Experience in firewalls, enterprise system administration, and cyber security.

  4. Considerable knowledge of networking hardware, infrastructure requirements, and components of local and wide area networks, as well as software applications, capabilities and limitations, service requirements and associated costs.


DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:



  1. Advanced degree in technology.

  2. Experience in hardware and software in educational applications.

  3. Experience working in a K-12 school setting.
