POSITION PURPOSE:

A senior-level accountant expected to backfill manger duties as needed.  Partners with the organization in all aspects of financial and operational performance management.  Engages with all levels of management to influence outcomes and promote sound decision making.  Enhances fiscal discipline by creating transparency around financial and operational performance. Measures, monitors, and reports critical factors such as cost, effort, and scope against the established business plans. Highlights factors that could result in unapproved scope and cost inflation.  Other accountabilities include financial statement integrity, technical accounting guidance, Sarbanes-Oxley control environment compliance, financial and operational performance reporting, annual business plan development, budgeting and forecasting, financial analysis, cost management, capital project planning, business system development and integration, system and process improvements, and business process management.

 

 

JOB DIMENSIONS:

Supervisory Responsibility —   Leads the work of others and may perform supervisory responsibilities under the guidance of a business services manager or higher level management position.                                   

Budget Responsibility — facilitates budget decisions and final approval derived from a business services manager or higher level management position.

 

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Facilitate and lead efforts to ensure the integrity of the financial statements and a Sarbanes-Oxley control environment.
  2. Improve financial and business acumen and actively educate others by seeking personal education and reviewing business information and technical documents.
  3. Influence, facilitate, and lead the development and review of budgets and business planning activities.
  4. Influence, facilitate, and lead the development and review of monthly forecast and savings/use.
  5. Actively develop and foster relationships within the team, with business partner(s) and across Financial Services.
  6. Analyze financial reports and cost data and lead efforts to influence and facilitate outcomes for the achievement of business objectives.
  7. Provides management with financial and operational insight to drive effective decision making.
  8. Lead special projects and initiatives as requested.
  9. Self driven and expected to work independently in a lead capacity. 
  10. May serve in a lead role and provide guidance to lower level employees performing financial support activities and utilizes coaching as needed.

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education — A Bachelor’s degree is required. Field of study in accounting or finance is preferred. A Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study, with related education, training & experience will be considered.  An advanced degree in accounting, finance or business administration is desirable.  A CPA is preferred.

Experience — At least eight years of experience in financial management, business systems and controls; preferably including experience in the utility industry. Ten years preferred. 

Certification/License, etc —Continued professional development necessary to obtain professional certifications (such as a CPA) is expected. 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — Must have the ability to analyze complex technical and management problems and determine the most cost effective solutions.  Must have working knowledge of general business, financial systems and controls, computer skills, and financial analysis techniques.  Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and to communicate clearly orally and in writing.  Strong commitment to building teamwork and conveying mission, objective, expectations and philosophy.  Demonstrates and drives TVA competencies (including leadership competencies) on a daily basis.  Candidate may be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance based on position / access requirements and essential job functions.
