Position Description

Position Title: Classroom Teacher – Grades 9-12

Department: Contingent Upon Area(s) of Certification and Assignment(s)

Reports To: Respective Division Chair(s)/Assistant Division Chair

Position Summary: Responsible for instruction/supervision/safety of students; curriculum development and implementation; professional growth and development

Responsibilities and Expectations

• Adheres to District policies and procedures, professional expectations, and related duties as outlined in the Board of Education policies, the Professional Appraisal System, and the Negotiated Agreement

• Demonstrates willingness to develop working knowledge of the full school program

• Models daily behavior that creates a climate for mutual respect and responsibility in the classroom; has a sense of humor; is available and accessible to students

• Maintains a safe, healthy, and comfortable environment for students in the classroom and throughout the District

• Participates in individual, team, department, division, and/or District professional growth and development opportunities

• Communicates with parents frequently and effectively and is accessible to students

• Initiates, develops, and maintains positive relationships with staff and community

• Participates in the school community beyond the classroom by attendance at co-curricular school functions

• Performs routine managerial tasks, including but not limited to taking and maintaining attendance and grades, in an accurate and timely manner

• Demonstrates consistent and documented scholarship in content area and ability to deliver content to a diverse student body

Education and Certification

College graduate and documented, appropriate Illinois certification.

Language Skills

Other Skills and Abilities

The employee must possess and apply the ability to use common sense and appropriate resources to solve problems, the ability to carry out instructions furnished in oral and/or written form, and other skills and abilities that may be required, depending upon the employee’s assignment.

Employment Year, Work Day and Compensation
Certified employee attendance for a school year will be 183 days. Except as may otherwise be required by law, the
regular work day for full-time certified employees shall not exceed seven and one-half (7.5) hours including a thirty
(30) minute duty-free lunch period. Except as may otherwise be required by law, the regular work day for part-time
certified employees shall be their assigned classes/positions, and planning periods shall be proportionate to the work
day for full-time certified employees, including a thirty (30) minute duty-free lunch period.
Compensation will be based on Appendix A of the LTEA Negotiated Agreement.
Sick and Personal Leave
The Board shall grant full-time certified employees sick leave provisions of fifteen (15) days at full pay in each school
year. The sick leave days shall accumulate at the rate of fifteen (15) days per school year.
The Board will grant three (3) personal leave days at full pay to each certified employee for personal business. Such
leave days are non-accumulative, year to year. Except in extenuating circumstances (which must be discussed with
the Director of Human Resources), these days shall not be taken on days immediately prior to or following school
holidays. Personal leave days will be deducted from accumulated sick leave days.
Medical Coverage and Life Insurance
All eligible faculty (.6 FTE or higher) will be included in the District’s PPO/Blue Choice Select medical/dental insurance
plans, as approved by the Board of Education. For the 2026-2027 school year, faculty members who elect to receive
medical coverage will be responsible for a percentage of the cost of the medical premium. The Board will provide a flu
shot at no cost to the member.
The Board shall provide each certified employee with $60,000 term group life insurance and accidental death and
dismemberment insurance.
Tuition Reimbursement
The Board of Education will provide reimbursement for tuition, books and fees of certified employees during their
employ in the District and who complete previously approved courses of study at District approved/accredited
colleges or universities with a grade of “B” or better, or pass in a pass/fail course.
A certified employee who chooses to receive tuition reimbursement for a graduate level course may not use the
course for advancement beyond the Master’s Degree lane. A certified employee will be reimbursed only upon receipt
of a transcript and receipt, and no certified employee may receive reimbursement for more than $5,000 during his/her
employ in the District. (Additional reimbursement is available based on enrollment in specific programs.)
A certified employee will be eligible for tuition reimbursement at the beginning of his/her third year of service (.6 FTE
or greater).
