Job Description

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Assist instructors with classroom and lab preparation (setting up tools, equipment, and training materials).
  • Help maintain shop organization, cleanliness, and inventory of parts, tools and training aids.
  • Support program staff with clerical duties such as data entry, filing, copying, and preparing instructional materials.
  • Assist in maintaining student records, attendance logs, and program documentation.
  • Help coordinate program events such as advisory board meetings, open houses, and student tours.
  • Assist with tagging and organizing equipment, tools, and donations received from John Deere dealerships.
  • Provide front-line assistance to students and visitors in the shop or office areas.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the improvement of the John Deere TECH learning environment.

     

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at Navarro College.
  • Must qualify for Federal Work Study funding.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently once trained.
  • Comfortable working in both office and shop environments.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in the John Deere TECH of Agriculture Mechanization Program.
  • Experience or interest in diesel technology, mechanical systems, or agricultural equipment.
  • Familiarity with safety procedures and shop equipment.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to assist faculty, staff, and students.

     

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work is performed in both classroom, office, and diesel lab/shop environments.
  • Exposure to moderate noise, tools, machinery, and mechanical equipment in shop settings.
  • May require standing, walking, bending, lifting, or moving objects up to 40 pounds with or without assistance.
  • Must follow all Navarro College safety policies and John Deere TECH Program lab safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when in shop areas.
  • Work schedule and duties may vary based on class schedules, lab projects, and program events.
  • Position requires professionalism, team work, and adherence to established safety and conduct standards at all times.
