Job Summary and Requirements: Transport students safely and efficiently to and from school, field trips, and other authorized activities while maintaining a secure, orderly, and respectful environment on the bus. This role involves operating a school bus in accordance with all local, state, and federal transportation laws and district policies; conducting pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections; ensuring students board, ride, and exit the bus safely; managing student behavior during transport; maintaining accurate route and attendance records; and communicating effectively with parents, school staff, and transportation supervisors.
The position requires the ability to remain emotionally stable, exercise sound judgment, and maintain professional composure in a fast-paced environment while ensuring student safety and responding appropriately to traffic conditions, weather hazards, medical situations, or other unexpected events. The role also requires the ability to sit for extended periods while driving, maintain constant alertness and focus, safely operate vehicle controls, assist students as needed during boarding and exiting, and occasionally lift or secure equipment or items weighing 20 pounds or more.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent, basic computer or communication skills (if relevant), ability to work with students, valid commercial driver’s licence (CDL) with appropriate passenger and school bus endorsements as required by state law, experience in schools or similar settings.
Compensation and Benefits: Daily rate is based on experience and certification at a range from $110.75-135.50. Benefit options for positions over 29 hours per week include section 125 health, vision, and dental coverage, subject to plan terms (for employees who work an average of 30 hours or more per week), voluntary benefits such as life insurance, long-term disability, and other ancillary insurance options (subject to applicable waiting periods, for employees who work an average of 30 hours or more per week), paid Time Off, 3 personal days and 5 sick days. This will be prorated based on the start date. Unused paid leave days roll over into sick accumulated days, and use of the Wellness Gym (workout facility for all employees and guests ages 18+) and Marathon Health Clinic.
