Job Description

The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), is NASA’s science operations center for missions including the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescopes. We are seeking a Human Resources Assistant to join our Benefits Team. We’re looking for a detailed oriented and eager professional to help process benefits administration changes and manage data inputs into HRIS systems.

This position can support hybrid work. STScI is located in Baltimore on the JHU campus.  Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to our local market. (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC & WV). This position will start as temporary and could provide opportunity to become permanent staff with full benefits eligibility.

Primary duties entail processing   benefit administration changes: enrollments, life events, retirements, COBRA, and compliance tracking.
• Inputting employee data into HRIS system: new hires, promotions, transfers, terminations, and data integrity.
• Vendor and payroll coordination: managing invoices, file transfers, and reconciliations with accuracy.
• Strong attention to detail in all data entry, reporting, and benefits-related processes.
• Employee support: onboarding, recognition programs, service awards, and leave administration.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with employees, managers, vendors, and payroll.
• Collaborative approach to cross-functional teamwork and problem-solving.
• Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive employee situations with discretion.

Experience

  • 1-2 years of experience performing HR operations, benefits support or business administration
  • Experience handling accounting-related tasks, data entry, vendor invoices, reconciliations, or payroll reporting;Proficient with MS Office
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. 
  • Preferred / Nice-to-Have
    • Experience supporting employees and providing customer service
    • Hands-on experience with HRIS platforms (UKG preferred) and payroll processes a plus
    • HR or Business-related coursework a plus.

 

The position will be full -time (Monday- Friday) with a hourly contractor rate of $24-$26 per hour and the ability to convert to a permanent position with comprehensive benefits. Free parking provided.  Reference #0015765
