Exciting opportunity for a full-time or part-time Cook that has a passion for preparing delicious foods for our members and staff.

Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time or part-time Cook that has a passion for preparing delicious foods for our members and staff. Follow meal patterns, food preparation/service standards, nutrition program guidelines and nutrition education practices for our members' care. The cook is responsible for preparing food, maintaining food production logs, food inventory, kitchenware, and making local food purchases. Offer high standards of quality food production and portion control using established recipes for age appropriate members which include school age children to adult menus. Demonstrates an understanding of healthy meal planning and ingredients aligned with BKLA’s mission.

 

Responsibilities:

●     Familiar with and practices the proper techniques for personal hygiene, food, safety, and sanitation of appropriate work areas

●     Demonstrates safe use, cleanliness and storage for all equipment used within the scope of the job; including but not limited to knives, sharpeners, stoves, steamers, slicers, mixers and food processors

●     Follow consistent guidelines and standardized recipes to prepare food in large quantities and accurately follow portion control techniques

●     Familiar with all specific assignments within the production areas and exhibits the ability to assume the responsibilities for each area

●     Maintain housekeeping needs for kitchen and storage room as it relates to the cooking schedules, menus and work orders to determine quantities of food to be prepared at specific times

●     Procures food from refrigerator, freezer or other storage areas; wash, trim/cut, season, measure and cook food according to recipes

●     Maintain strict sanitary standards, according to departmental policy and procedures (e.g. handling food appropriately, maintaining temperatures, etc.) and cleaning work stations

 

Requirements/Qualifications:

●     2+ years experience specializing in cooking for a large institution, hospital, and/or hotel

●     Previous experience in cooking, baking or cold food production (Required)

●     Effective communication and impeccable customer service (e.g. respectful, knowledgeable, confident, professional, pleasant attitude, patient and helpful)

●     Demonstrate working in a fast paced environment

●     NYC Food Handlers CertificateVocational or higher education in food service (Preferred)
