Salary Range:    $15.00 - $30.00 Hourly


Description

We are seeking a passionate and experienced swim instructor to join our aquatic team at the SSYMCA. The swim instructor will be responsible for teaching swimming skills to students of all ages and abilities in group settings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in swimming instruction, a positive and patient demeanor, and a commitment to promoting water safety. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Plan and conduct swim lessons following our YMCA curriculum and guidelines. 

  • Swim lessons will be taught with utmost professionalism, high-quality and enthusiastic instruction. 

  • Swim lessons will have a high level of supervision and focus on safety. 

  • Instruct students in water safety and proper swimming techniques. 

  • Evaluate students' progress and provide feedback and recommendations for improvement while collaborating with families.  

  • Ensure a safe and clean aquatic environment. 

  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues. 

  • Enforce all pool rules and regulations. 

  • Interact with members in a friendly, engaging, and professional manner.

Qualifications


  • Current lifeguard certification preferred (courses offered through YMCA if not already obtained) 

  • Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification/YSL or similar (preferred but not required) 

  • CPR and First Aid certification. 

  • Previous experience teaching swim lessons preferred. 

  • Strong swimming skills and knowledge of various strokes and techniques. 

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 

  • Ability to work with diverse age groups and adapt teaching methods as needed. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to demonstrate swimming proficiency and endurance. 

  • Ability to stand and instruct for extended periods. 

  • Ability to lift and move equipment as necessary. 

  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, swim, walk and talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
