Briggs Roofing Company, a trusted name in roofing for more than 42 years, is seeking a reliable, organized, and hands-on Production Assistant / Shop Manager to support daily production operations. This position plays a key role in maintaining the flow of materials, equipment, and jobsite readiness for our crews. Working closely with the Production Manager, the Production Assistant ensures that each job is properly staged, equipped, and supplied, allowing crews to perform efficiently and safely in the field.
This position is ideal for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and pride in keeping operations organized and running smoothly.

Key Responsibilities
Job Preparation & Material Handling
- Pick up materials from vendors and deliver to the shop or job sites as needed.
- Run short or missing materials to active job sites quickly and accurately.
- Prepare, stage, and label materials for upcoming projects.
- Load and unload trailers, trucks, and equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist Production Manager with job staging, order verification, and inventory tracking.
- Operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment safely (training available if not yet certified).
Shop & Equipment Maintenance
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized shop and yard area at all times.
- Keep tools, ladders, and roofing equipment in working order; report or repair damaged tools.
- Perform basic maintenance and repairs on hand tools, trailers, and light equipment.
- Keep work trucks and trailers organized, fueled, and ready for deployment.
- Bend and fabricate specialty trim and flashing using a metal break and shear.
- Coordinate the dumping of trailers and disposal of jobsite debris as directed.
Logistics & Transportation
- Safely pull, maneuver, and park company trailers to and from job sites.
- Maintain delivery logs and confirm pickup/delivery accuracy.
- Assist with equipment drop-offs, returns, and special pickups as needed.
- Ensure proper load securement and compliance with DOT safety requirements.
Inventory & Supply Control
- Track incoming and outgoing material inventory.
- Notify Production Manager of low stock levels or damaged materials.
- Assist in organizing storage areas and labeling materials by project or product type.
- Support quarterly inventory counts and vendor restocking coordination.
Team Support & Communication
- Take daily direction from the Production Manager and support other production staff as needed.
- Communicate effectively with field supervisors, vendors, and delivery personnel.
- Report any safety hazards, missing materials, or delays immediately.
- Participate in regular safety meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs. regularly.
Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with hand tools, trailers, and equipment.
Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Able to read and speak English clearly and follow written/verbal instructions.
Commitment to maintaining safety, quality, and teamwork on every task.
Forklift Certification (or willingness to become certified).
Experience in construction, roofing, or warehouse/shop operations.
Basic understanding of roofing materials and jobsite logistics.
Knowledge of JobProgress or other construction management systems.
