Job Description

About the Role:

Ducks Unlimited is seeking a highly motivated Full-time, Exempt HR Specialist to join our team at NHQ in Memphis, TN.

Responsibilities: As an HR Specialist, you will utilize your strong organizational and time management skills to ensure the smooth running of HR operations. Your excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be essential in building relationships with employees and partners. Your attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment will be critical to your success as an HR Specialist.

Onboarding and Talent Acquisition Support: 

  • Address employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and organizational leadership.
  • Organize and execute the onboarding process for new employees.
  • Project management pre-offer through first-day paperwork and create new employee profiles in the HRIS.
  • Facilitate new hire orientation sessions.

HR Strategy Support:

  • Assist in implementing HR policies, supporting performance reviews, and contributing to HR initiatives aligned with organizational goals.

Payroll & Benefits Support: 

  • Facilitate explanations of employee benefits plans, timekeeping processes, and the use of HRIS and benefit portals for enrollment and change management of personal information and elections.
  • Provide backup support for processing biweekly payroll, including coordinating between payroll and employees to ensure a thorough and accurate accounting of employment and life status changes impacting pay and benefits.
  • Collect and fulfill state requests for unemployment, garnishment, disability, and related needs.
  • Provide support for leaves of absence, open enrollment, and related efforts as needed

 

 Compliance:

  • Maintain employment-related records, files, and postings.
  • Monitor compliance calendar and support compliance reporting and audit needs, as requested.

Organization-wide activities: 

  • Participate in all meetings and other employee-related engagement activities.
  • As needed, support the planning and execution of employee meetings, organization-wide employee engagement activities, development programs, etc.
  • Support office management activities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources or equivalent training and experience in a related field is strongly preferred.
  • 1-3 years of experience in an HR Specialist/Generalist role in a mid-size organization (500+ employees).
  • Familiarity with federal HR compliance requirements.
  • SHRM-CP or PHR certification is a plus.

Skills Required:

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong customer focus.

 

 Technical Capabilities:

Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) with experience generating reports, performing intermediate-level formulas, charts, etc., and creating slide decks.

  • Hands-on experience with HRIS systems (new employee set-up, employment processing, compensation, job and related status changes, etc.).
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet applications, macros, and HR systems.
  • Familiar with standard technology terms and using video conferencing software.
  • Ability to develop test cases and verify that a feature within the HRIS functions correctly.

 Other Requirements:

  • Overnight travel, including some nights and weekends, may be required.
  • Supporting employee events during nights, weekends, or after normal business hours may also be required.
  • This is a Monday through Friday in-office role.
