Job Title: Instructional Aide - Mascoutah High School
Reports To:  Special Education Administrators and Building Principal
FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt
Work Days:  177 days. Anticipated work schedule 7:15 am-3:00 pm with a 30 minute lunch. 7.25 hours per day
Rate of Pay: Pay Range is $17.35-23.35 per hour (based on experience). Benefits and board paid IMRF available.

JOB SUMMARY

Mascoutah Middle School is looking for a dedicated, student-centered Instructional Aide to join our middle school team immediately! If you thrive in a collaborative environment and want to play a vital role in helping students reach their full potential, we want to meet you.The job goal is to improve the quality of services provided to students and act as a student advocate by  assisting the teacher in implementing all aspects of the educational program, to assist students to meet  goals.  The instructional aide takes no independent actions, but has some decision-making authority limited and regulated by board policy and state law.  This also applies to those instructional aides who may hold degrees or certificates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Must hold a valid IL paraprofessional license.
• Associate's degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution of higher education; completed 60 semester hours of college credit at a regionally accredited institution of higher education; HS Diploma or GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro; or HS Diploma or GED and passing scores on the ACT Workkeys.
• Must be at least 19 years of age.
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills to work with teachers, education support personnel, building administrators, and the general public.
• Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner.
• Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
• Requires employee to have the ability to push/pull up to 10 lbs.
• Must be detail oriented.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Instructional aides assist teachers in presenting lessons that demonstrate an understanding and use of a variety of instructional strategies, questioning techniques, and resources that promote student learning and encourage students' development of basic skills, critical thinking, and problem solving.  Discussions engage students and relate background.
  • Assist students with academic tasks
  • Assist students in completion of  classroom assignments
  • Assist the teacher in assuring that individual student goals are met
• Instructional aides use an understanding of individuals and group motivation and behavior to create an environment that encourages social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation.  The instructional aide assists the teacher in managing the classroom efficiently and effectively. The instructional aide fosters a positive, supportive classroom atmosphere and assists students in using time productively.
  • Establish rapport with students and teachers in the classroom to promote a positive learning environment
  • Assist students with organizational tasks
  • Assists in creating a safe classroom environment focused on learning
  • Help to maintain discipline and assist with individual student behavior management under the direction of the certified staff
  • Effectively assist students with transitions
  • Assist classroom teacher in maintaining classroom materials
• Instructional aides understand the role of communication in education and develop and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues.  The instructional aide is expected to maintain standards of professional conduct, grow professionally, and meet policy requirements.
  • Respect student and staff confidentiality
  • Work collaboratively with the team to assure student success
  • Adhere to directives of certified staff and/or administration
  • Adhere to appropriate communication channels with pupils, parents, and community
  • Participate in professional development activities
  • Abide by all applicable laws and comply with all policies and procedures of Mascoutah CUSD #19
• The instructional aide understands their role goes beyond instruction in the classroom setting.  The
  • instructional aide is expected to assist with clerical duties and supervisory duties as needed.
  • Track and record student data
  • Assist teacher in completion of progress monitoring and data input
  • Prepare teaching materials
  • Grading as requested in collaboration with the certified teacher
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned
