Purpose of the Position:
Directly participates in the daily operations at the LIEC facility by keeping the highest standards of guest service and cleanliness in all public areas of the Long Island Education Center located in Long Island Cutchogue, NY 11935.
The primary responsibility as a Pool Guard is to prevent drowning and other injuries from occurring. Candidates must be able to ensure the safety of patrons by minimizing or eliminating hazardous situations or behaviors. Additional requirements for this role include but is not limited to:
- Strong critical-thinking and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess situations quickly and respond appropriately to on-the-job issues.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, demonstrating professionalism, respect, and calm communication at all times.
- Capability to enforce pool rules and safety policies consistently, clearly explaining policies and their purpose to patrons in a courteous and confident manner.
- Promptly reports incidents, safety concerns, or operational issues to the on-site Director or Manager on duty
Work schedule: Must be available to work a minimum of 10-15 hours per week from Memorial Day to Labor Day. For applicants under 18 years of age, Employment Duration will be based on NYS Permitted Hours for Minors Under 18 years of Age.
- Tuesday & Wednesday 11:00AM-5:00PM, occasionally until 6:00PM
- Friday 3:00PM-6:00PM
- Saturday 9:00AM-6:00PM
- Days Off: Sunday, Monday and Thursday
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 16 years of age by start date.
- Valid Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Required.
- Valid CPR/ First Aid/AED Certifications Required.
- Ability to react to emergency situations by quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift individual in distress of varying weights.
- Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing, or walking for various lengths of time.
- Extensive knowledge of and ability to administer or use first aid, CPR, AED, and other lifesaving techniques.
- Excellent observational skills.
- Ability to enforce pool regulations and rules.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Previous pool guard experience required.
Physical Requirements:
- Demonstrated strong swimming skills, with the ability to effectively move through the water and tow individuals during rescue situations.
- Physically capable of performing aquatic rescues, including assisting swimmers who are distressed, injured, or at risk of drowning in a pool environment.
- Ability to remain poolside and outdoors for extended periods, maintaining vigilance in varying weather and environmental conditions.
