About the Department

The Knox County Common Pleas Court is seeking a Custodian to join their team! This is a full-time position. Knox County offers competitive pay, paid time off, Public Student Loan Forgiveness, and more. Wages will be commensurate with experience.

Position Duties

Individual is responsible for cleaning offices and performing other custodial duties within the Common Pleas Court, Annex, and Adult Probation buildings. Individual is under direct supervision of the Common Pleas Court Judge.

Essential Job Functions

  • Cleaning floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, waxing, buffing or vacuuming;
  • Gathering and emptying trash and recycling;
  • Servicing, cleaning, and supplying restrooms;
  • Cleaning windows, glass, and mirrors;
  • Dusting furniture, walls, machines, and equipment;
  • Mixing and handling cleaning solutions;
  • Cleaning carpets as needed;
  • Assisting with moving furniture and supplies;
  • Putting in work orders for maintenance needs.

Non-Essential Job Functions

  • Performs related non-essential functions as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to read and write.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance that complies with the County policy combined with an acceptable driving record and criminal background check.
  • Must meet and maintain all required licenses and certifications as a continued condition of employment.

I. JOB REQUIREMENTS

Equipment:

Ability to use vacuum cleaner, carpet sweeper, buffer/scrubber, climb ladder and use hand tools such as brooms, dust pan, bucket, mop, rubber gloves and other equipment necessary to perform duties. Individual uses appropriate personal protective equipment when necessary.

Critical Skills/Expertise:

  • General knowledge of rules, regulations, and guidelines regarding cleaning practices and procedures;
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions regarding proper use and care of power equipment and preparation, storage and proper use of cleaning agents;
  • Ability to incorporate basic housekeeping skills to the job;
  • Communicates professionally and effectively with internal and external customers, both orally and in writing;
  • Organizes and prioritizes work assignments, multi task with accurate focus and refocus in a fast paced environment;
  • Delivers excellent customer service, externally and internally;
  • Thorough knowledge, adherence and aptitude to follow safety policies, procedures and practices; and
  • Thorough knowledge, adherence and aptitude to follow federal, state, county, and department policies and procedures, laws and regulations.

II. DIFFICULTY OF WORK

The physical requirements of the position include climbing a ladder, pushing a buffer and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds or one hundred (100) pounds with assistance.

III. RESPONSIBILITY

Individual is given general direction from Supervisor in following established practices and clear-cut policies. Work is reviewed in the process. Errors are generally readily detected in normal course of work by standard checking resulting in little or no difficulty in loss of time to correct. This position entails coordinating and organizing room layouts and set up; troubleshooting during the event; and cleaning the venue post-event.

 Contact is with co-workers, employees from public and private sector organizations and the public.

V. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position may require the Custodian to work in unpleasant working conditions on occasion.  

Physical Requirements:  The physical requirements of the position include climbing a ladder, pushing a buffer and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds or one hundred (100) pounds with assistance.

Physical Activity: Individual performs the following physical activities: standing, walking, manual dexterity, grasping, talking, and listening.

Job Location:  The minimum work conditions for the position indicate that the individual is exposed to both inside and outside.
