High School English IV Teacher

Location: UME Preparatory Academy
Reports To: Campus Principal

Position Summary

The High School English IV Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for English Language Arts and Reading. This role focuses on preparing 12th-grade students for college and career readiness through rigorous, engaging, and standards-based instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver daily instruction aligned to TEKS for English IV
• Develop lesson plans that promote critical thinking, writing, reading comprehension, and analytical skills
• Prepare students for postsecondary success, including college readiness and workforce communication skills
• Utilize a variety of instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs
• Assess student progress regularly and adjust instruction accordingly
• Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and grades in Skyward
• Establish and maintain a positive, structured classroom environment
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff
• Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and campus initiatives
• Support school-wide goals and uphold the mission and values of UME Preparatory Academy

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
• Valid Texas Teaching Certification in English Language Arts and Reading (Grades 7�12) or equivalent content-area certification in compliance with TEA requirements
• Demonstrated knowledge of TEKS and ability to align instruction accordingly
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills

Preferred

• Experience teaching high school English, specifically English IV
• Experience with college readiness standards (SAT/ACT, essay writing, research papers)
• Familiarity with data-driven instruction and differentiated learning strategies

• Ability to build relationships with students and staff
• Effective time management and instructional planning
• Proficiency in instructional technology and student information systems

Working Conditions

• Classroom environment with prolonged periods of standing, walking, and speaking

Compensation

Salary is based on experience and aligned with the UME Preparatory Academy pay scale. Eligible employees may receive additional stipends based on certifications, responsibilities, and performance.
