Contractor Coordinator/Maintenance Planner

Ashland has an exciting opportunity for a Contractor Coordinator/Planner to join our Ashland Specialty Products business at our Hopewell, VA location. This is a very visible, significant role within the Company and the manufacturing function. This position will report to the Maintenance Manager.
The responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide overall coordination and governance of on‑site contractor activities, ensuring work is executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company policies, EHS requirements, and contractual obligations.
- Act as the primary facility representative for contractor engagement, including planning, daily coordination, issue resolution, and budget management.
- Ensure contractors meet all site requirements prior to work start, including safety orientation, training, and required documentation.
- Oversee and validate work permitting processes and ensure permits are properly issued, maintained, and closed.
- Lead or support contractor safety audits, inspections, and observations, and follow up on corrective actions as needed.
- Support investigation, documentation, and corrective actions related to contractor incidents, injuries, and near‑miss events.
- Maintain accurate and auditable contractor records, including safety documentation, permits, audits, and orientation records.
- Ensure contractor accountability and coordination during plant emergencies and abnormal operating conditions.
- Actively contribute to the organizational goals by taking initiative, executing on goals, and focusing on performance and safety
- Improve the organization's capacity and capabilities through building collaborative relationships, optimizing diverse talent, and utilizing positive communications and influence with others
In order to be qualified for this role, you must possess the following:
- 5-10 years in chemical manufacturing supporting maintenance or production
- Be able to lift no more than 50 lbs
- HS Diploma or GED
- Demonstrated responsible and ethical behavior at all times
- The ability to help the company drive greater value through understanding the business, making complex decisions, and creating the new and different
The following skill sets are preferred by the business unit:
- Experience in PSM covered facilities
- Six Sigma certification
- Supervisory experience
