Job Description

Job Purpose 



Under general supervision of the Director of Diagnostic Services, this position performs routine standardized clinical diagnostic tests in a medical laboratory as well as various technical and clerical duties related to Laboratory services including pediatric phlebotomy; specimen collection, accessioning, and processing; assisting nursing with other tasks as assigned. 



 



Qualifications 



















Education: 



High School Diploma, Completion of accredited Phlebotomy Program                                                                                      



Experience: 



5-7 years pediatric phlebotomy preferred (if non-degree) 



License/Certification/Credential: 



Certified Phlebotomy Technician preferred 




 



Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 



































Duty 



Percent of Time 



Function as a pediatric phlebotomy professional to assist nursing on daily specimen collection and blood draws. 



50% 



May be called on to perform hematologic, chemical, waived kit patient, and other patient testing after demonstrating competency in a prompt and reliable manner according to established hospital and departmental policies.  



30% 



Assists with clerical duties such as answering phones and verifying patient test requests and billing information for send-out tests. Assist in confirming and/or finding correct diagnostic codes in patient charts or from physician orders as needed. Follow up with Reference Laboratory on pending results and ensures the results populate the patient record. Provides patient results to physician as necessary. 



10% 



Maintain medical laboratory inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing orders with purchasing department for supplies. Monitor laboratory supply inventory for expiration of in-stock items. Restocks supplies on mobile phlebotomy carts and ensure that all supplies are in date.
