About the Department
The City of Fort Dodge is looking for a Communications Intern to play a key role in an exciting website transformation project. This isn’t just busywork—you’ll help shape how residents interact with their local government online.
In this role, you’ll assist with updating and organizing content, ensuring important public information is accurate, easy to find, and accessible to all users. You’ll also help review the new site’s design for usability and ADA compliance, contributing to a more user-friendly and inclusive experience for our community.
We’re looking for a current student majoring in communications or a related field who is detail-oriented, curious, and ready to make a real impact.
Pay: $16 per hour
Duration: 12–15 weeks, depending on availability

Position Duties
- Assist with reviewing, editing, and organizing website content across City departments
- Ensure key public information is accurate, current, and easy to locate
- Help migrate content from the existing website to the new platform
- Review webpages for clarity, readability, and user-friendly structure
- Support ADA compliance efforts, including formatting content for accessibility standards
- Collaborate with staff to gather and verify information for website updates
- Identify gaps in content and recommend improvements to enhance the user experience
- Assist with basic analytics or feedback tracking to evaluate website effectiveness

- Current student pursuing a degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field
- Must successfully pass a post-offer background check and drug screening.

- Basic understanding of website structure and digital content (CMS experience is a plus)
- Familiarity with or willingness to learn ADA accessibility standards
- Strong time management skills and ability to work independently
- Comfortable collaborating with multiple departments and stakeholders
- Problem-solving mindset with a focus on improving user experience
