    Special Education Coordinator 

    Position: Special Education Facilitator

    FLSA Status: Exempt � 230 Day Term Position

    Salary: $70,566 + (based on education and experience)

    About the Role

    The Special Education Facilitator provides specialized mentoring, coaching, and support for first-year Special Education teachers across elementary and secondary schools. This role also supports experienced SPED teachers with compliance, timelines, paperwork, and instructional processes unique to Special Education. The Facilitator plays a key role in strengthening districtwide SPED systems, ensuring compliance, and supporting high-quality services for students with disabilities.

     

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    • Mentor and guide first-year Special Education teachers, with emphasis on SPED-specific processes, procedures, and compliance expectations.
    • Support experienced SPED teachers with case management, paperwork, timelines, caseload organization, and collaboration requirements.
    • Provide training and coaching to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
    • Organize and facilitate staff development for both SPED and general education teachers on topics related to students with special needs.
    • Provide training and support in the district's computerized case-management system.
    • Collaborate with school administrators, SPED teams, and district leadership to support consistent implementation of SPED procedures.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

     

    Qualifications

    Education & Experience

    • Bachelor's degree required; Special Education preferred.
    • Master's degree preferred (Special Education or Educational Leadership).
    • Experience teaching students with special needs and working in a SPED setting preferred.
    • Valid IVP Clearance Card required.

    Certificates & Licensure

    • Valid Arizona Special Education Teaching Certificate required.

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to read, interpret, and apply educational regulations, professional literature, and technical procedures.
    • Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedural documents.
    • Ability to present information effectively to staff, families, and community groups.
    • Ability to apply mathematical concepts such as proportions, percentages, and basic algebra/geometry.
    • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule-based instructions.

     

    Physical Demands

    • Regularly required to stand, talk, hear, use hands, and reach with arms.
    • Frequently required to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift/carry up to 25 pounds.
    • Frequent movement around classrooms and campuses.
    • Occasional sitting.
    • Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

     

    Work Environment

    • May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
    • Possible exposure to humidity, dust, or varying ventilation conditions.
    • Noise level is generally moderate.
