Position Overview

Sanctuary Recovery Centers is seeking an experienced Controller to oversee all accounting and financial operations for our behavioral health programs. This role is a key financial leadership position responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, audit readiness, and compliance with healthcare and Arizona regulatory requirements.

The Controller works closely with executive leadership, operations, HR, and compliance teams to support organizational growth and financial stability.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Close

  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Prepare and review financial statements, reconciliations, and journal entries
  • Maintain general ledger accuracy and financial reporting integrity

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee accounts payable, payroll accounting, cash management, and fixed assets
  • Monitor cash flow, revenue trends, and expense controls
  • Serve as backup support for payroll and AP as needed

Healthcare & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure financial compliance with healthcare payer requirements and applicable regulations
  • Support audits, inspections, and payer reviews
  • Maintain documentation to support ADHS, AHCCCS, and accreditation standards

Budgeting & Financial Analysis

  • Assist with annual budgeting and financial forecasting
  • Analyze variances and provide recommendations to leadership
  • Support cost analysis and program planning

Audit & External Reporting

  • Lead annual financial audits and act as liaison to external auditors
  • Prepare audit schedules and supporting documentation
  • Support tax filings and required external financial reporting (including nonprofit filings, if applicable)

Internal Controls & Process Improvement

  • Develop and maintain internal accounting controls
  • Improve financial policies, procedures, and workflows
  • Identify opportunities for efficiency and risk reduction

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Supervise and support accounting staff
  • Partner with executive leadership and department heads
  • Communicate financial information clearly to non‑financial stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience
  • Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, or nonprofit environments
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and internal accounting controls
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting systems and Microsoft Excel
  • CPA or CMA certification
  • Experience in behavioral health or substance use disorder treatment settings
  • Experience supporting audits and regulatory reviews
  • Familiarity with nonprofit accounting standards and healthcare reimbursement environments
