Job Description

The Oaks of Clearwater has a 60-bed skilled nursing facility on our second floor. We are seeking an experienced Director of Nursing. This position is responsible for assigned programs to ensure quality resident care and management of the nursing department under the direction of our DON and our Nursing Home Administrator. The Oaks of Clearwater has been privately owned for over 30 years and are committed to our facility and residents. We are revamping our site and looking for the qualified assistant director of nursing to join us. The purpose of this job is to assist our overall operation of our nursing department in accordance with our current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility. 

The following job functions have been determined to be essential to the position of Assistant Director of Nursing.  Because of fluctuations in workload demands, as well as tasks often overlapping, frequency ranges and percentages vary by assignment, day of week, day, evening or night shift, etc.  However, low frequency and percentage or duration of time spent on a particular task may not indicate lack of importance.  The Oaks of Clearwater reserves the right to modify this list of essential and other functions as deemed necessary.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, evaluate and direct the nursing services department, as well as related programs and activities in compliance with rules and regulations governing long term care facilities, employers and in accordance with facility policy. These responsibilities including the following:
  • Print out physician orders and create physician visits
  • Recertification
  • Medication reviews
  • In-services
  • Infection control
  • Utilization review
  • Public relations
  • Consultant services
  • Other tasks as detailed below
  • Determine the staffing needs of the nursing services department recommend number of employees needed and assist with the recruitment and hiring of staff.
  • Facilitate the coordination of nursing services and other departments to maintain quality care for residents and offer equal opportunities for employees.
  • Update job descriptions in the nursing services department to comply with the mandates of federal and state labor laws.
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations, counsel and monitor tardiness, absenteeism and disciplinary situations to assure quality care for residents and equal opportunities for all employees of the nursing services department.
  • Solicit, review, intervene and report complaints and grievances made by residents, families, visitors, agencies, etc.
  • Organize, manage, review, monitor, authorize and administer nursing care functions for residents.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for the Nursing Home Administrator regarding the operation of the Nursing Services Department.
  • Recognize and respond to changes in residents’ conditions and document observations, interventions and outcomes.
  • Perform emergency procedures such as Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Recognize, intervene and report accidents and incidents timely.
  • Arrange for and oversee the admitting, transferring and discharge of residents.
  • Develop, maintain and periodically update written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing department.
  • Participate in surveys made by authorized government agencies, participate in various committees, such as care plans, infection control, pharmacy, budget, quality assessment and assurance and those a those assigned by the Administrator.

Qualifications:

Experienced in Skilled Nursing Facility Required

Strong leadership skills

EducationIt is preferred that the Assistant Director of Nursing will have received a nursing degree from an accredited college or university. It is preferred that the Assistant Director of Nursing will have advanced education in nursing management, administration, geriatric nursing and rehabilitation, relevant to working in this position

LICENSURE:

The Assistant Director of Nursing will hold a current, unencumbered license to practice as a registered nurse in this state and receive required continuing education units for license renewal.
