A typical day for a JV cheer coach is a mix of teaching, mentoring, and preparation.
The coach runs a structured practice, emphasizing fundamentals, conditioning, and
team strategy, while also teaching cheerleaders discipline and teamwork. The
coach manages communication with parents, coordinates with other coaches on
game day plans, and monitors players’ academic performance and behavior. On
game days, the coach prepares the team mentally and tactically, ensuring every
cheerleader understands their role. The day often ends late, with post-game
reflections, reviewing film, and planning for the next practice—all part of building not
just a team, but young men and women of character, in addition to implementing the
expectations of the overall athletic program of Pennfield Schools and the JV cheer
program.
- Participate in all fall coaches meetings in preparation of the
season.
- Organize and direct daily practices to promote the development
of student-athletes in the sport of cheerleading.
- Teach fundamental skills, strategies, concepts and conditioning
expectations within the structure of the MHSAA and Pennfield
Schools guidelines.
- Follow all MHSAA and Pennfield High School coaching
guidelines in the development and implementation of high
school cheerleading program expectations.
- Manage and care for all cheer equipment and mats.
- Distribute and collect uniforms of all team members.
- Ensure all uniforms are returned and stored immediately
following the conclusion of the fall season.
- Additional responsibilities may be requested by the athletic
director/varsity head coach.
JOB DESCRIPTION
JV Cheerleading Coach

The JV cheer coach will work at the Pennfield Schools athletic facilities
and buildings. We have a strong sense of pride in Pennfield and our
athletic program, therefore it will be expected that you work to instill
these qualities in the student-athletes involved in JV cheer.
● Preference maybe given to Pennfield school district employees
● Experience cheerleading and coaching cheer is desired
● Experience in coaching high school level or beyond is desired
● Ability to teach fundamental skills, game, strategies, and program
expectations are required
● Must follow all MHSAA and Pennfield High School coaching
guidelines
● Must be CPR certified prior to the beginning of the fall season
● Background check and fingerprinting must be completed
● May require completion of CAP I or II course before fall season
- Compensation: Schedule B position, based on Teacher contract scale
